We have talked about going down and seeing it this time, especially since it's going to be just South or East of us depending on which way we drive. HOWEVER, either way is through a major (for us) city with many other people wanting to go see the same thing. We can't help but wonder if it would be worth it to haul 4 kids 3 hours each way, not counting the traffic in order to see the eclipse. There are of course no motels available in the areas, and it wouldn't be worth it to stay overnight if we could find one I bet.

Too bad you aren't closer. You and your family would be very welcome to watch it here and stay at my house overnight.

Comet may be visible during dark totality.

Things are gettin nuts around here. Bell County line is 7 miles East of my house and a judge in that county has issued a local disaster proclamation due to concerns about all the visitors. Their 400,000 population is projected to double next week.

Weather is not projected to cooperate tho.

Number 1; I would carefully- and fully- respect the people and area where I visit...for anything (Camping, road trip, eclipse, etc)

Number 2; A man who is 105 is going to see this eclipse in Texas- it will be his THIRTEENTH eclipse!

Number 3; Please be very careful in viewing the eclipse- you should have the special glasses- but during totality you can carefully look at the corona- just be prepared to look away quickly when the totality ends. When the sun come back out- even though it is just a sliver, it can wreck your eyes.

Back in 2017 I went on a trip up to eastern Oregon to see the solar eclipse...it was an amazing trip....here is my story- and some pictures;

Very cool CVX... those pictures are awesome. The last time I saw one was in the mid 1980s. I think... I THINK I was in Massachusetts, or maybe it was North Carolina... I can't really remember. My family went camping, I wasn't even 10... but I remember it being pretty spectacular. It was a total solar eclipse and the only thing I saw was a big red ring when the eclipse was ... for lack of knowing the technical term... "right smack in the middle."

Funny thing is, I was supposed to go on a business trip to San Antonio next week. We were leaving Sunday and were going to be there through Friday. I'd booked my flights in January, and was totally unable to get a rental car at the time, and just assumed the site was down. I tried again a few days ago... and remembered there was an eclipse. Everyone was flipping out, and I cancelled the trip (along with the trip for the rest of my teammates that were going to go). I could already see we were going to have issues, and the last thing I wanted was for people to be stuck at airports because of delayed flights, not being able to get a rental car (let alone an Uber), and having our hotel reservations rescinded and overbooked.

Would have liked to have seen it, but definitely didn't want to deal with all of that. It's different because I saw it as a kid... so I don't feel as though I'm missing out.
