They are managed by a UD eISY which runs on openBSD. |

Nice but you or someone else have to install any "better" dimmers & most people do not do this to install CFL or now LEDs for many reasons...
Just 2 Examples: Rental Property & Lease say Not Allowed by you or others. Too much $ to have someone to do that. More so when a Building requires Union workers like many places in NYC & other cities.
Many LED "bulbs" still use Capacitor Voltage Droppers that may not work right w/ PWM controls. Often don't work @ all w/ most older dimmers using Triac & some other dimmer types.[This message has been edited by theogre (edited 01-30-2024).]

I paid off my mortgage nearly ten years ago and everything was setup by the most conscientious handyman I know. He owns three Pontiacs and three American motorcycles. You might know him.

Doesn't mean anything to most. Only proves many pushing X product have little clue how affect others. Sim or Same hype pushing EV to people w/ nowhere to charge like most in "Old City" Philly w/ "row homes" & no private parking on streets design & made for traffic 200+ years back. Or Apple Tesla & other Fanboys w/ Money to burn on current fad.
⚠️ Many "Smart Home" & IOT Products have huge problems including Security Problems even when the Company doesn't Brick them @ a whim because is "too old" to keep supporting, company sold or bankrupt. start w/ Dark Side of the Smart Home & IOT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7W0YVVmz1Y
I don't know anyone in AZ or care about how many cars etc anyone has.

The “conscientious handyman” is me. I installed and maintain my own system. I chose the components with reliability and forward compatibility in mind.
Everything runs locally. The system does not depend on the cloud. I have redundant controllers with different technologies so that if one has a problem, I can still control and monitor the network. If any component were to become unavailable, I could add a component with a different protocol and include it seamlessly. In fact, the system is compatible with hundreds of types of devices, including cars and lawnmowers.
Insteon switches and dimmers do not depend on any other hardware. Each device stores all of the links and instructions in internal memory so that if everything else around it failed, the device would still carry out its programmed functions and schedules. Each device communicates with the system by both RF and PLC, and each device is a signal repeater so that the more devices you have, the more reliable communication becomes, even across both legs in the house.

The final scene is hilarious, but doesn't make a lot of sense out of context.
It starts at 4:30 in this clip:
