Todd .my math is 20x100=$2000. Were they cheap like that?
I was reading Trump's book the other day, a story in and of itself. He mentioned Cadillac giving him a brand new Allante back then.
Does a 2001 qualify as classic? I thought it was raised to 25 years?
I recall them wanting mileage. I never was required to prove it, that I can think. I'll never think of the company. It seems like McGuire's, but that's wax. |

Sorry, I think I wanted to believe it was 20k because it just didn't make sense to me. I came in at the beginning, and the car was immaculate. I can only assume either it was a really, really stupid decision, or there was something with the car that caused it to be written off by the dealership to the point where it no longer had value... but I can't seem to think what... it looked immaculate, and it was a brand new car. Just insane...
2001 isn't a classic, but it can still be considered a "collectible." American Collector Insurance is OK with anything you consider a collectible (within reason), but you have to meet their guidelines... like... no driving to work except on rare occasions, no hauling, things like that. When you get your insurance papers from them, they aren't actually the ones doing the insurance... mine came from some PA West Underwriter. I guess they just manage it. I've been happy with them before, and I'm happy with them today. Of course, I've never had to file a claim, but they have good reviews on the interwebs...

Yeah, my insurance company did that a few years ago. They wanted to see the car in person, told me to drive it to their office. When I got there, the agent was a bit surprised when I told him go ahead, climb inside the enclosed trailer and check for yourself.
They now know when I say what the mileage is, I'm telling the truth. - They haven't bothered me since.

Note: Many "News" & other MSM outlets had pushed low mile discounts to save money for "the virus" couple years ago causing big upswing of people wanting it but problem is nearly all kept it when driving a lot again.
So don't surprise me & others that I-co want proof you still get that discount.
Again... States that Inspect the car often require Odo Reading & many I-co's can get that data & no need to bother you. But some states limit/ban access to I-co's & other 3rd parties (like CarFax et al) & many States don't inspect so no record how many miles currently...
Many States will have Mile records for EV & hybrids as part of soon Tax By Mile because they don't buy any or enough Fuel. US Fuel Price includes State & Fed Fuel/Road Tax + Sales Tax in some places. Examples: Some state have already Tested Tax By Mile by using similar OBD2 Dongles for some I-co's like Progressive Snapshot that often sucks way more data than publish in ads. Other states are looking at Forcing Car Makers to report Miles because so many EV & Hybrids "Call Home" to use builtin services, updates to PCM, etc.
I'm surprise that I-co's using Dongles will even offer this discount as a stand alone item.

Thanks for all the replies. Good point about insurance companies going after clients who have multi car discount as I have had that for years. However, I have never heard of anyone having to deal with these three realities as in my particular case: 1) They are coming up with these astronomical increases in mileage for my cars that are not only off, they are WAY OFF. It’s kind of disturbing. 2) My agent asked me for two speedo pics in less than two months. (for the same car) 3) My agent will almost NEVER answer my questions. He would make a great politician! I'd just get a different agent. If you think he's treating you like you're a dishonest person now, how he's going to be when you file a claim.
I've paid more for insurance and other services to insure a better outcome. Maybe time you do the same.
Todd, I don't even have it tagged or insured currently. Probably buy the last few cosmetic parts and sell it when people get their tax "loans" back after the first.

ls3mach, I was just talk to my friend last night and he recommended I try his State Farm agent. I’m thinking about it. Although I think it would be “more of a slap in the face” to my current agent if I just showed up to his office and canceled all of my policies and washed my hands of 40+ years of State Farm getting my money for free. Thinking back over 40+ years, I don’t recall ever having an accident that was my fault where they had to pay out even one penny. You would think I would get better treatment since I have 5 cars with them and never hardly drive 4 out of the 5 and never had to file a claim where it was my fault. Kit

Call State Farm or whatever Corp Offices & complain about that agent & demand Why you need to prove miles multiple times in a short span of time. Or Email Corp Offices so have all in Writing.
Then tell them want another agent or cancel.
"Local" Agents are mostly "Franchisees" of X Company just like 90+% of fast food chains. Agent that generates complaints can have big problems w/ Corporate.
An Agent has Nothing to do w/ Claims in most I-co's systems. Example: When you call any SF agent for a Claim, they speed dial & transfer to Corp Claim Offices that handle all Claims. You can call same directly & they operate 24/7 all year. Then after a Claim is started, they often forward to local/regional claim office has nothing to do w/ local agents.
But Do Not Cancel Before You get New Insurance! Car & Home if bundled in this case.
Even 1 Day w/o Car Insurance can cause way more problems & not just when a cop stops you for any reason. Because in many states, I-co reports lost of car insurance to the State. Then State wants answers like why you didn't surrender the tag etc. & can Fine you Hundred$ per day, suspend your license, & more.
Mortgage often Requires Continual home insurance. Even 1 day w/o it can cause big problems depending on bank or who ever has the Note. This is why I-co has to give 30 or more days of warning before canceling or non-renewal to give time to find others like many people in NJ when some companies stopped business there.
Note: Getting New insurance can cost way more $ regardless of ads saying you save money. I have "Shopped around" several times over the years & every time all quoted me 2x or more $ on old cars & small home.[This message has been edited by theogre (edited 10-30-2023).]

Safeco sent me an email today, requestion mileage for my Suburban.
"As a reminder, you have enrolled in Safeco's Low Mileage program and received a discount on your auto policy for the low mileage you drive each year. In order to keep your discount, please reply within 30 days by accessing your account below."
I gave them the info, I drove 467 miles for 2022, 2021 was 321 miles and 2020 was 379 miles.[This message has been edited by CoolBlue87GT (edited 10-30-2023).]
