Fiero is gone (Page 2/3)

1976? Still have to have it pass smog every other year and that old they will have to put it on the rollers. Better have a couple of hours.

The first hot rod I remember was my uncles 60 something mustang. He couldn't drive it on the street so he use to drive it in the cemetery where my grandfather worked. They lived on property so it never went on the street.
He never got to put a tag on it. Sold it and joined the Army when he was 17. Back then they gave you a choice, jail or the armed forces.
Not sure when I started to love cars, here is very young me on my uncles Chevelle.

I have always had a love for cars. Liked fixing them but loved driving them more. Not really big on racing, just the feel of the road and being able to pass someone at will.

I could never get away with this type of Fiero in CA

I currently have a 2007 Mustang GT that I have done all I can to without having find a way around something.
Really miss the long tube headers and high flow cats.

Perhaps I should pull the trigger and go get a bike.

It isn't less than $30k, but if you already like your 2007 Mustang and aren't over them...get a newer one. Even the base eco-boost will keep up with 16 year old Mustang. Likely outrun it too unless you've done a whole lot. I am way beyond over Fieros and there are no restrictions in my respective states.

My reasons were the general cheapness of the audience Fieros bring. Myself included initially. Even the coolest and best Fiero, is still just a Fiero. I'd only want another 88 CJB GT or Formula and my last 2 were as far bastardized as you could get. Even the fastest Fiero isn't that fast and isn't much of a racer. All around plenty better cars. My 5 speed was 141/151 (can't remember) on the rollers when I dyno'd. That's plenty fast, but even fully upgraded it didn't hold a candle to a modern performance car at those speeds. Dangerous even, to the point of not fun.

I have stayed in T/OT, but even that is not often. I like seeing a lot of the early members. I haven't seen a Fiero Club member in 10 years or more.

Good luck Mr. Jake. Maybe in your case it isn't the Fieros fault, but where you live. Give up California instead.

Can't you just buy anything obdII and spoof the test? I was driving mountain roads here with some BMW people and they said they just had an engine tune that manipulated the testing....they had no cats or other emissions equipment and a bunch of mods. The tune would just report a PASS on everything. There's plenty you could do to a LS1 Camaro/Trans Am and it'd look stock.

Personally I'd just leave California than let them keep me from owning a swapped Fiero. Or your best case would be building a 3.4 to look stock? Maybe hide a turbo under a big heat shield?

Some tuning programs will let you turn off trouble codes and diagnostics for specific items.

I used to know someone who removed an electric smog pump from a 2001 Sonoma, capped off the lines, and then told the ECM to forget about it - monitoring and codes. It did exactly that. Passed with flying colors.
He also told a 2005 Silverado to forget about the evap system. Same result.
"Catalyst efficiency" diagnostics and codes are a little less certain, but still do-able, too.

Of course, commiefornia might actually check for specific parameters being enabled. I know nothing about their testing.

This...

I would just rather not deal with it. I will find something or move.

Someone asked about my Mustang, I still have it and drive it. Its fun but it's my DD and it passes inspection the way it is. So I will not be doing anything else to it while I live in CA.
I just want a fun car that I can do something crazy with if I want and no one is going to fine my ass out of the state.
