We get the store la we deserve (Page 2/2)

I know it is getting more and more difficult to go geta week worth of grocery for all the big tall carts being pushed around by employees doing the shopping FOR people.

I suppose it might be a matter of convenience for some, but I see it mostly as people just getting too damn lazy to do their own shopping.

YUP

My "monthly" trip for bulk stuff runs 4-500 pounds of "crap". Litter, big bags pet food, potatoes, water and pop cases ect.

Why the hell would I want to haul that myself when I can get it to my door for 7 bucks delivery fee ?

$7 is $7.

Aldi's just opened up nearby. One trip to Aldi's a week is about 150 compared to the two stores I used to go to that would end up closer to 350. Bread is 2 bucks instead of 5. Milk is 7 bucks a gallon instead of 15-16. They have some seriously good prices, comparatively. and NOTHING is locked away...and its never crowded.

You pay $7/gallon for milk..and that is supposed to be a bargain???? I buy name brand whole milk for $3.48/gallon.

Even in Hawaii, it is only $6/gallon.

Does Aldi's sell their own brand of nuts? Home depots near me caged up all the smaller expensive stuff, voltmeters, sprayers, power tools, even sawzall blades are locked up. The employee has to wait with you, then take the item to the front till youre ready to pay.

I remember service merchandise, they were like best. Take the tag and pay for it, then wait in line by the conveyor belt. Anyone have a gemco back in the day? They were the first to have a membership card to enter, my older bro and I would wait till a family was going in then walk in with them. 1$ for a yuuuuge plate of fries! Next to mervyns, alladins castle, the nut tree, and radio shack. Oh and the emporium too w sears. Now its a bunch of gigantic townhomes and apartments that have studios for $4k/mo. Sears had the sidewalks w the glass bit thats sparkled when you walked, just dont see that stuff anymore.

Funny enough, thats the way things are done at most beer stores in Ontario. They have been slowly moving to a self-serve model for 20 years or so as they build new stores, but most of them you order and pay up front, the guy in the back zips it out of the cooler on a roller-conveyor

I think so, but they aren't less expensive than the other places...

It's about 3.80 a gallon here unless you buy raw milk out of a neighbors bulk tank.
Another reason that I don't want much to do with that place down there.

And don't blame the farmers for high milk prices.
