I got hooked on Queen back in 1976...I liked BoRhap, and a friend in school told me to buy the "Black Album"...He was referring to their second album...But They had just come out with their fifth album- "A Day at the Races"...and it is...Black. A bunch of good music but two great songs; Millionaire Waltz and Teo Torriatte...
What I did not realize was that my poor father probably asked me at some point "Who's music is that?" and I stated "Oh- That is a group called Queen, dad!" And then he stated "Oh...OK" and turned to walk down the hall, at which point he made terrified facial expressions while mouthing "Oh my god-oh my god-oh my god!"
I wish he could have seen that they made a movie about them- he would have realized that I actually was right (For once)...About them being a great band.
I made a list of "Queen songs that don't sound like Queen" Most written/sung by either the drummer or the lead guitarist. I will post it on a separate thread...this thread is for Gordon Lightfoot.
