I have said it before, there were only two good things about the '80s: Ronald Reagan and the Pontiac Fiero.

I don't get it. I haven't owned one in years. Don't even have a player. Between You-Tube, Tubi, Prime Video and Roku I have all I could EVER want to watch, and dont take up entire closets storing it.

Ding! Ding! Ding! The Wife get's it... Because Can watch/listen to Disk or Tape without internet connection.

Let's Ignore in Many Place people still use slow DSL and even Dial Up modems go get to the "net..." Ignore too many have faster access but is Data Capped by whatever name like Most Comcast users that now capped @ 1TB and not big enough because most "cell phone" and more uses local WiFi First. Even ignore "5G" Scam pushed by ATT Et Al because you can't get high speed they claim in most places even in big cities even with best bleeding edge high & phones could use micrometer bands that isn't available in most places and never will.

Green Agenda will make more Blackouts in more places then CA already does even ignoring storm blackouts common to many places that can kill net access for people with power. Because "TV" Cable and Fiber internet needs power to operate and "central offices" and other locations may have backup power but only in limited amounts.

Companies Can close the web store to stream/"buy" whatever like bankrupt UltraViolet, Comcast buying X then closing X services, Nintendo closed Wii store a few years ago then WiiU store just recently. (Comcast stopping X was covered here. I'm don't digging thru the archive.)

Every Streamer, not just Netflix, drops movies etc off the service w/ little warning. BBC Disney etc has own Steamers and stopped most things to Netflix viewing or move to Prime because likely Amacon pays more + many titles are rent/buy cloud copies only and if you "buy" at higher price can still be dropped w/o warning.

Many Remember how Amacon Deleted Kindle copies when was © dispute over who had rights to digital publish 1984 in 2009. web search: 1984 deleted from kindle.

Even then Many Bluray players, Wii, and other things no longer can use NetFlix etc because can't upgrade them to meet current DRM. Including many "Smart TVs" just a few years old.
Even some old Bluray Players won't play a lot of disks because of DRM versions on the disks and can't update the player.

The 80s has become popular, and the parents are likely buying these clothes because of it. But the majority of the kids have never listened to this music... they just don't. Most kids today listen to everything from Ed Sheeren (sp?) to slow rap, to hip hop, to stuff like Imagine Dragons. Sad but true...

I never liked Green Day though, ugh... couldn't stand those guys.

I graduated HS in 1996... so you know my era.

I think you really are selling kids short. They have unlimited internet and are glued to their phones. I am sure your daughter hears TONS of your taste in music.

I'm not trying to be adversarial here, but it is like you don't think they are almost whole people. You probably had a job and your own opinions at that age, I bet they do too. I see regularly people asking about jobs for 14 year old kids.

On topic. Blockbuster looking at it, was MUCH more expensive than any or even all the subscription services. People had it in their budget as family night or whatever. If you were lucky you got your own movie as a kid. The concessions stuff , I'm sure they also made a killing on . i remember even renting video games from the as recently as PS3, so it isn't even that far forgotten. I don't know what the plan should be for them to make money. I don't own any kids either, Maybe could be a fun first date idea, but then what?

I will be excited to see the plan. Anything that isn't being on the phone all day is a welcome change.

I have everything backed up to digital, but NEVER give up your physical media.

DVD players will also need electricity to run.

But you can get power for them when the place is total blackout from Power Co or State/City Orders a blackout like CA does this.

"Mini" units w/ screen and batteries can run days to weeks just w/ extra battery packs and/or small generators. Or just charge off a vehicle as you drive anywhere.
Full units and screens can often run on very small generators like HF "Tailgate" (no longer sold) and other 2cycle engine generators.

Again, even if your area has power or use a generator... May not have internet because ISP has no power to operate at the CO etc then can't stream anything.

Many just think will use Cell data... Read the fine print even when have "unlimited" data plans on cell phones. Often phones etc still use local WiFi to save Cell Data because many "unlimited" plans still have limits for many reasons and even if don't hit them, cell towers often crawl data speeds when a lot of people are on @ same time. Most recent phones now use local WiFi for phone calls too vie VoIP so many phones rarely use Cell service @ home and other places.

ATT, Verizon and T-mobil has No Plans to upgrade towers to "5G" in many areas. Even many high density areas won't upgrade towers for years if ever. But your Cell Phone can say is using "5G" while on "4G" LTE towers. (often need "Test/Service/secret" codes to actually see what tower you're actually connected to.) That's slows data to start and most towers still don't have bandwidth to handle a lot of people streaming all day.
All others are resellers for those companies even Comcast is just on Verizon Cell system. And most to all of these "sub brands" get lower priority data and voice services vs ATT et al phones.

Note that "Ultra Speed 5G" by whatever hype uses even higher radio bands that do not go thru walls etc. If you even have a phone that works those bands at all. Worse then 5GHz or newer 6GHz (use by WiFi6+ and up) WiFi in most buildings.
