our new dog for a day and the cat that nearly died... (Page 2/2)

We had a very similar "Dog doesn't get along with cats" episode years ago. Neighbors had a cute little French Bulldog puppy, used to get under the fence to visit us. As it grew they decided they didn't want to take care of it's ongoing skin problems. Neighbor is loading dog into their car and my wife asks if they're finally taking it to the vet. No, they're getting rid of it, to the shelter.

We now have a grown French Bulldog. Vet declares dog "a dermatologic disaster area" (exact words) and wife does indeed save dog an reconstitute it's fur! However it took a long time to stop chasing the three cats. Wife made more than one flying tackle of dog chasing cats.

She was a 70 pound cinder block of muscle. The dog, NOT the wife! About as smart, and twice as stubborn. Eldest Son took her when he moved out, and she passed away at a ripe old age a few years ago. Do wish I had video of my wife chasing dog chasing cats, though.

MJ: Next time (and there will be a next time) ask your wife if you can use HER phone to video this "Because it will be so cute." You'll need to take lessons from a professional hockey cameraman. They're the only ones who can track action like that.

Wasn't suggesting it's always true that the trick is to keep them hungry but, doing so generally keeps them sticking around so those predatory instincts benefit the person feeding them "just enough". There's almost always an exception to every rule.
