Qualified 1st as sharpshooter with m-14 in boot camp in 1969, then as expert with m-14 at my 1st squadron Ch Pt N.C. a year later.
I never picked up or saw an M-16 until I arrived in RVN.
In '72 qualified expert with M-16 at NAS Millington Tenn, my last USMC duty station.
Qualified again with m-14 in '74 and with m-16 in '75 in Guantanamo, just because I could. (most USN did not have to or choose to qualify with any kind of personal weapon)

The m-16 to me always just 'felt wrong' especially with bayonet fixed. Too light and too short. Not to mention I missed that recoil and long distance accuracy of the 7.62x51 cartridge.

My SKS is a pretty close feel to the M-14 in all aspects but not nearly as accurate or as reliable.

My last and only experience with an M 16 was during recruit training. After that, I was issue a .45 and a riot shotgun for duty on our NWS. Our unit did have M 16s in the Arms room and I did qualify but, those rifles were never issued out for anything other than training and qualification while I was at NWS Seal Beach. Carried those we were issued on duty every time we went out. I was surprised when my NCO told me I was going to be carrying an M 60 for our convoys to and from our destinations during missions in that I never qualified with that weapon. Thankfully, it was never needed. No, I can't explain why I was selected for that.

Size ?

Biggest guys got picked for LMG and MG here. ONLY reason I ended up with an FN-C2 instead of a C-1.

Pig was so easy to use even a caveman could do it. It was a bit heavy but nothing like the Browning 50.

Of Course! How else would I be able to play all my music...... Why do you think I got that trailer to pull behind my Bike and Trike. Those 8 tracks take up more room.
