Yes. Especially the ones with the tv screens that play loud commercials.

Another video from Husky 1 of very few that makes fuel station equipment. (OPW, Emco are 2 others in the US.) How Nozzles Work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3phjAQZdGg
OPW video via Source North America (I think top video is an OPW nozzle.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1-X7VIxFIo
OPW12VW Vapor Recovery animation from OPW Dover https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBo9AORaXgI
Note: Many Nozzle for Self Service Pumps shut off for other reason and top video has no clue. Most shut off and stay off without pressure from the pump. Husky & OPW covers this. Many shut off when the nozzle falls or customer use it "wrong." Husky covers at the end.
Related: How does ZVA nozzle works from LIGIR RUSSIA (also Vapor Recovery nozzle shown as Yellow flow.) Nozzle design maybe seen in Russia EU and others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afKwoc5DG9Y[This message has been edited by theogre (edited 11-02-2022).]

LOL Yep. First time I got gas in NJ, the attendant freaked the hell out and started screamin' at me - I though he was BSing me that there's no such thing as "self-serve".

2006 Super Duty. Same issues. Upside down doesn't even work sometimes. I bought this truck more than a decade ago and it always been that way. Obnoxious.

Never had a problem in Indiana, Ohio or Florida. Only had the issue when I moved to California. Found out about holding the handle upside down from another Mustang owner and haven't had any issues.

I'm one of those confident dudes, who starts pumping the gas, set the handle lock and walks away to goes inside.
Of all my years and miles driven, I have never experienced a failure of the auto stop feature on the gas pump.

Last week a local Marathon station had a customer who locked the nozzle on, then went inside to make a purchase. When he came back out, the bay was flooded because the nozzle failed to shut off. They had to close the station until the fire department and a cleanup crew had completed their work.
I even had a nozzle fail to shut off at the same station, and I was manually filling my Fiero.

Stick a pencil between the hose and filler to vent the back-pressure.
67 Mustang hated those things 35 years ago !

Many stations have "rules" posted somewhere on the pump or island and 1 is users must stay at the pump when filling for this reason.
In a lot of places you can get huge Fines and Bills for causing this. Many US States have very strict rules how to clean a fuel spill and when to report to local HAZMAT on top of calling 911... Was true even before added Ethanol because MBTE is big problem w/ water pollution.
Typical scene: Station call 911 for a spill, FD responds, they "call" HAZMAT team and you can get charged w/ a crime or sued by the business, city or state. On top of bill for fuel spilled.
Even if station doesn't call 911 for a smaller spill, they can use tag no, video, etc and forward to city and so on or to sue you for clean up.
