There is a mountain north of town. To get there, you have to go up the freeway for an hour, then up a winding dirt road for another 90 minutes to reach the campground. From there you can hike a couple of miles to a lookout point.

When you reach that lookout point, you are looking right back down on Phoenix, sprawling out across the valley. After hours of driving and walking, the place where you started seems so close. Life is like that. Enjoy the ride.
