'immobilizer' means something completely different to livestock producers ... I'm gonna let ya do your own search for it..

Ordered a new ignition, it was $82 and comes with new keys. Should be here today. So I should know if that fixes it by this weekend.
I have reached out to a couple Honda service departments and they have not responded. Odd, I also see there is a recall for the passenger air bag and to schedule an appointment its 2 1/2 months out. Lock smiths can also reset the keys if they have the scan tool, the couple I talked to did not have the tools to do that.
Some history, the key got stuck in the car about 6 months ago, I got it out but then it wouldn't go back in. I took everything apart and fixed it but I had to file down some parts of the Lock Cylinder so the key would go in. Nothing else was changed. Nothing with the chip sensor was changed. That is why I choose to change out the ignition as the current one could be started with a screwdriver if you know what you are doing

Ignition was replaced and all codes cleared. Seems that I will have to have someone come out and look at it.
At least I know that the key is not going to get stuck anymore. I would cut our losses and get something else but its not my car.
Can I claim it as a Covid death and mandate we get a different car?

Locksmith reset the immobilizer and configured the new keys. None of the door fobs work right now but the car is running and that is the important part.

Good show.
Hope the charges were not crushing.

What a nuisance this "immobilizer" ordeal has been! Did you end up putting more money into this 2009 Civic than it's worth?

$365 all together so not too bad. The car runs great, doesn't use oil (Much) I had looked at the prices and found a replacement would cost more.
I had just replaced all of the brakes right before lock down so it was worth that. If it had gone any where close to $1000 it would have been a different story.
Should the issue come back I will replace the ECU and install a bypass chip to get rid of the immobilizer. May do that anyway But for now its nice knowing we have a backup car when I want to work on mine.

$250 for the lock smith to do his thing, I was close to just buying the tool for the keys but couldn't pull the trigger on a $400 tool I was only going to use once. Guess I could have put an ad in the paper and made the money back fixing other peoples cars
The dealer never did call me back. That ticks me off a little but it is what it is.

Well the car has been doing ok but we had to get it SMOG tested and it failed. Apparently between the battery issue and not driving it the stupid car had to be drive cycled. We drove over 300 miles in 4 days trying to get it to reset. Finally this morning it cleared and we passed SMOG. Not sure what did it, I insisted it was me calling it a piece of **** and that I was going to put a rag in the fuel tank and set it on fire. 10 minutes later the code reader said it past the CAT test.

I've had nothing but BAD experiences working on and driving Honda Civics, I don't get why people like them.
