There is a man here in little ol Franklin that makes early banjo replicas. He was the art teacher here. He was featured on a Craft in America episode on PBS. Rhiannon Giddens bought one of his banjos and talks about it. Jim's segment begins at 30:50.

Very cool! She plays that banjo a lot, as a matter of fact I think it is the one in the video I posted above. Thank you very much for the link!

It looks like the one. Jim is a great guy. My kids all had him in art class. I didn't even know he made banjos until word got around town that he was going to be on TV. He never talked about it whenever he was in my shop. That whole episode was very interesting. The PBS documentary Country Music by Ken Burns was excellent. I have the CD's of that series.

The first couple of minutes sounds like Indian jazz fusion.



Damn, these guys are good. Bela Fleck is an absolute genius and Jerry Douglas is unparalleled. There is a lot going on here.
