That being said, I can’t understand why no cell phone manufacturers offer an App/software tool that (when turned on) will cause the phone to IGNORE all calls (won’t ring) except for phone numbers in my address book? Another feature is that despite ignoring unknown numbers and not ringing, it will record/log the incoming phone numbers. (in case you need to sift through the missed calls for retrieval)

I understand not all people would want this tool but for those who only use their cell phones for “internal use mostly” (i.e. friends and family) this would be much handier than constantly blocking numbers of robots & telemarketers.

Your comments?

W/ most phones even w/ Dumb "Feature Phones" you don't need an app to do that.
1. You set "Custom Ringtones" for people you want to hear.
2. Make or DL Silence MP3 WAV or whatever format the phone supports, Max Length 6 - 10 sec.
3. Set that as default/system ringtone.
4. Optional, set system sound settings to also vibrate for calls. you "hear" someone is calling but far less noise.

This allows sound settings to work as normal w/o tone for anyone not having a CR.

Some CR are easy to see as part of a contact entry often near the bottom.
Others CR you "edit" a contact but this is hidden in a menu. Example: Android 10 is in 3 stack dots menu on upper right of screen.

Plus You can have 1 to Many CR so you know what person or group is calling w/o advertising names etc.
Family = X tone, Work = Y tone, and so on.

When adding ringtones... Use short duration and "G rated" tones.
I avoid most things w/ vocals too.
Example: only first 8 sec of Pink Panther is one I use.
You can make ringtone w/ any sound editor. But Avoid newer Audacity. Software was good put new owner is now a spyware that calls home.

If you block calls how will you know your car warranty is going to expire?

I love those calls. Depending on how busy I am, I play them, waste their time. I ask a lot of questions, ... what does it cover, deductible, approved repair facilities, the cost of the plan, then I back out.

"Wait, wait, let me get my manager for you." The I play him. I finally tell him he can sign me up.

Mgr : "What year car do you have ? "
Me : "1947 Ford P/U "

The towers that serve them are designed to be laid out in a grid-work. The area around the tower is called a cell.

Plus before ATT et al had "new" cell systems, they had radio phones sold to business and other high $ buyers. Same system but fake use by Drysdale on Beverly Hillbillies and Batman phones in cars.

These systems had 1 to a very few towers to handle the phones in a given area. Also these towers only carried a few Channels and often have to wait to find a free channel.
If you think current Cell covered outside of a big city often is poor and have problems... This was way worse.

Construction supers used to have those, too. You could be talking to them out on a jobsite and all of a sudden the horn on their pickup would start beeping (like some car alarms do nowadays) and they would have to interrupt to answer the phone. It was the sign of a bigshot.
