It's been on the ballot before, and despite Enbridge lobbying HARD, Michiganders want rid of it.

The line is just draped across the lake floor, and has been hit by ships in the past

The line feeds the petrochemical plants in Sarnia, across the river from Port Huron, Michigan. People from Port Huron want Sarnia shut down, the pollution is incredible. There have been a lot of unexplained releases over the years. My Grandparents lived right across the river from the refinery (house was built in 1900), and you used to be able to see a giant flamethrower straight up into the air. Several times you'd go outside, and everything was covered in black soot they claimed to know nothing about.
The equipment in Sarnia is ancient and out of date. If the line was shut down, it may force petroleum refinement to move somewhere else, which would be a win for Michigan.

Not going to happen. We have about 3,000 active wells here and most of them are within an hour of Sarnia.
