If this virus can be transmitted on surfaces, why are we not also required to wear gloves as well as masks when shopping?

Inform us of the risks and let us decide our course of action.

There is an undercurrent of compliance to the State with these mask mandates.

What's next? Will we be restricted from wearing flipflops to reduce foot injuries?

And if the virus is so damned deadly, why isn't all the people that haven't wore a mask in the last year all dead yet? I'm still here even after the wife had it and we followed NO government imposed safety crap and still didn't get it. She wore/wears a mask everywhere by the way.

Sucks to be you then. I have went everywhere I want, seen who I want and eaten everywhere I want, just as before. Nothings really changed for me.

We run a risk just getting out of bed, driving to that pub and with every decision we make during our lives. I support your right to make those decisions and expect others to respect my rights to make my own. As I said previously, I fully support the CDC guidance and hope others do but, for those that don't, I can choose to stay away from them just like I choose to not go to other places. Nude beaches come to mind. Not sure why but, that was the example I came up with.

It's been reported many times over and consistently after the earliest months of the pandemic--probably even on Fox News, Newsmax and OAN, but I wouldn't know about that--that the primary transmission mode for the virus is respiratory and involves airborne transmission from the infected person to the "infectee." If a person becomes infected, it's most likely because they inhaled the virus through their nose or mouth.

Well-fitting masks, properly worn, have been evaluated in laboratory experiments--some are presented on YouTube--that provide evidence that they drastically reduce the number of vrions (virus particles) that an infected person releases into the surrounding air.

I've not seen any reports of evidence that suggests that a mask-wearing person who is already infected is disadvantaged by having most of the virions that they are exhaling trapped or deflected by the mask that they are wearing. That would be re-inhaling or re-ingesting of one's own virions--but I've not encountered a single report, in all of my Internet ramblings, that identifies that as any additional risk to that person who is already infected.

If a person wanted to protect themselves from the virus during a trip to a grocery store or some similar excursion, and they wanted to protect themselves without any compromise, they could wear gloves. Some people do. It would be additional protection in theory, although it would actually depend on the care that is taken when the person removes the gloves.
