The audience (in simplistic terms)

If they don't like it then it flops.

Just like millions of performances before it.

So are you saying that the audience can require the artist to perform?

Does it make a difference that the production company is a 501(c)(3)?
MidEngineManiac MAR 24, 06:47 PM
Nope

I'm saying an audience can choose to watch/attend/listen...or not

Nothing about "requiring" a performance.

If an artist wants to sit in an empty field and try to attract listeners, more power to him. ( the old "speakers corner" idea)...you are old enough to remember before we had fenced "free speech zones"

Look at it this way....you hire me to 3d-print a giant penis with both arms giving the finger. (yeh, I AM working on a commission like that ). NOTHING in the contract about how-what-details-viens-fingernails. You want an 8-inch dick with arms and hands giving the bird for a joke gift.

So I do it.

All of a sudden, you dont "like" the fingernails, and the nutsack should have been different, and its all wrong, its not what you had in mind and you aint payin...

Excuse me ?....If you had wanted specific details or omissions, you should have mentioned them up front as part of the contract. You asked for a dick with arms giving the finger, and thats exactly what you got.

In the opera case, if they wanted "no negativity" it was up to the client to specify that in the original tender/offer/request/whatever.

The production company had a choice and they chose to stand behind their performer. I think they made a respectable decision.

The composer also made a choice. He chose not to compromise, also respectable.

"Life in Black America."

What a crybaby, playing the race card because his choices have consequences.

It seems setting up your own media platform is the only way.

When "they" control the levers and even the web backbone you are at their mercy.

If they can affix a label like 'racist', 'sexist', 'homo-phobe', 'anti-semite' then all of the sheep public will gang up to support the stifling of free speech. It doesn't matter if there is innocence or guilt proven.
