I don't think he is trying to convince anyone by saying "look I have scholars too". I think essentially that part was merely pointing out, that pointing out one has scholars, isn't impressive. It is indeed an indirect way of arguing.

I also don't think he was trying to create a credible alternative to the Darwinian Theory.

There are also much better sections of the vid to critique.

I also think its better to argue the subject matter than the speaker or the method.

Science is the framework that Mankind has developed to explain the workings of God's Creation.

We don't get it right all that often.

Edit to add....

We've only been working on science for a few centuries.

God has had all Eternity.
