You should put a stack of Frank Sinatra records and a decanter of scotch on top, just for appearance sake.

A) I don't drink (Or do any drugs)
B) Not Sinatra....The old album sitting on the stereo to the left is "Queen; SheetKeeckers" which is bootleg of their first big concert; "Father to son", "Ogre Battle" and "Son & Daughter" (Which is where Brain May played his echo jam before incorporating it into "Brighton Rock"...Inspired me to do my Echo jam (Not very good tho)

It was a tip of the hat to what has become known as "mid century modern". I guess you had to be there.

In the day, those were known as Hi-Fi Consoles. Can't you picture Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin pouring a glass of whiskey for "some dame"?[This message has been edited by williegoat (edited 12-12-2020).]

Kinda hard to get it up on your shoulder tho, and would take a really long cord.

Most "Console" stereos are the old Victorian style with curly-cues and such....I have rarely seen any other "Modern" look consoles....That looks pretty cool.
I most definitely don't like the "stack-o-components" stereos that everyone now has...(I went with a modern TV because A) Digital and B) it takes up a lot less room and C) It's 40 inches (Yes, I know, everyone now has 55" (Size doesn't matter.......No, it doesn't....No-no-no-NO!)

Still using my 1957 PMC (portable mini mid century console) T150-3 or as we used to call them, my transistor radio. Raytheon baby! If they're good enough for sidewinders, tows, mavericks, javelins, tomahawks, and phalanx, they're good enough for me.

I probably should stick it on ebay https://antiqueradios.com/f...pic.php?f=4&t=251477

An iconic symbol of the youth culture in the early sixties.

Just do an image search for "Hi-Fi Console". They were very popular in the fifties and sixties. There are entire websites dedicated to the beasts: https://www.hificlinic.com/
In the Victorian era, stereo referred primarily to a technology one might have used to view a 3-D image of the Taj Mahal.

Now of course, Frank Sinatra's Hi-Fi was a little over the top:
