Try looking at your local craigslist or Facebook marketplace for a used ping pong table. People are always getting rid of stuff and you can probably get a decent table for cheap.

Maybe I'm not thinking about this right, Don. When I think of "laminate", I think of something super smooth like a countertop. Table tennis tables aren't smooth. I think raw MDF (the smooth side) would be just about right. You need just a bit of "grit" for spin. |

There are all kinds of different laminates, and I've applied most all of them at the same plant I did all the cnc sawing at. They can be glossy smooth or semi-smooth matte or rougher laminate and even buy a good quality particle board with both sides covered with a product called melamine, which is also a matte finish. Very durable. It's a thermally fused coating . You can also get mdf with the melamine coating already applied..both sides or one sides the durable coating and opposite side with the brown paper backer. The flat matte produces very little or no glare under lights and helps prevent items sliding around. Most countertops and displays you see in stores and offices are melamine.
Many regular high gloss laminates are pvc and too smooth for most high use countertops in a big box store.

Based on several indications, I believe there may be a Ping Pong table under our Christmas tree. So to speak.
Will be looking for that very large wrapped present.
But, the challenge is still out there. All you want to be Paddle Handlers, bring it on.

Ron,
A few years ago, I came home from Iraq and found a ping pong table installed in my living room. You have seen the room and it is huge but the new ping pong table took up any remaining space and stays folded until actual use time.

Nelson, Yep, that's just an additional reason for me, my mancave is pretty big and lacks the furniture to fill it. I enjoy ping pong so, why not. I got a peak at what is coming, it folds up and has wheels/rollers on it's base. So, since you're obviously a player, bring it on.
