Look at the huge numbers of compact/sub-compact crossovers these days. Not sure the Maverick name makes as much sense as the Courier name on one of the teaser pics (which looks suprisingly similar to the Brazilian Ford Courier, imagine that). For those of us old enough to remember, the Courier was a decent mini (NOT mid size) pick up. (I think they called it a compact back then.) I'm all for it. I'd consider it depending on the price. |

Maybe. I don't know if the market will ever shift back that way again though. I think the last "mini" truck made ended in 2004 with the Nissan Frontier. After that they all moved to being mid-sized or larger trucks because there was no US market for mini's anymore. Personally I would love to see the return of mini trucks but I don't anticipate many manufacturers in that market. It's a nice "idea" but the market demands have pushed us in to crossovers, SUVs and trucks for the most part. Look at the electric Mustang or the new Mitsubishi Eclipse. Crossovers. How do you go from a little sporty 2 door coupe or a 2 door muscle car to a crossover? Because those are what the buyers want.

Price and need being the two most important issues. If you need something that will handle more than 600 lbs (or heavier) in the bed, go with something built to handle such loads. My wife has had several SUVs of different models and brands, this time when she wanted to trade, I finally convinced her to think about how she used her vehicle and what would be a good choice versus what she had been driving the last twenty years. She wanted a Honda. OK, I can go with that. Honda builds a light duty vehicle with an open bed called a Ridgeline. I talked her into (at least) test driving it. She drove it first then two different models of Honda SUVs. (I don't remember what they were.)
On her final test drive, she told the salesman and myself that she Ridgeline rode better and had a lot more usable load capability than either SUV and bought it. She's been a happy camper with it ever since. Only took 39 years for her to listen to my advice. Of course, a Ridgeline may not be the vehicle anyone else wants but, for my wife's needs, it's perfect.
Now, if I could only get her to use mom's recipe for chili...…………

The Omni/Horizon was a small car. With a factory turbo 4 cyl, it was one of the fastest production cars of the day (GLH, meaning goes like hell}. I dont remember them offering a pickup version. I think you may be thinking of a Rampage which sort of looked similar.[This message has been edited by rogergarrison (edited 08-02-2020).]

Would love to find a 71/72 in good shape. 1971- '75 Ford Maverick Grabber
Upgrade parts would be pretty easy to get and it would be a cool car to drive around in and watch people scratch their heads.
As for the new Truck, well a small wheel base truck would be nice I wont be buying anything new. Ever. Don't get me wrong my 07 Mustang is a great car but I didn't buy it new and let someone else weed out the bad ones.

So, has anyone bought one of these? I know they're impossible to find. If you can find one, they're 10 grand over sticker price, even used!

I like them. I see a few around OKC. I doubt I drop any coin to buy new. Especially with it going for over MSRP. I have a paid off super duty and a car that gets superior similar gas mileage, so I am probably not even their target audience. I would ditch the car for one of these though.[This message has been edited by ls3mach (edited 09-14-2022).]

Not hard to find here, but yes, way over the MSRP price.
