According to an interview with his ex-wife, he's been kicking the idea around for years. Finally bit the bullet. As for Hillary buying his participation? She can't afford his time or his campaign since he is self-funded. I say no way possible.

While far from perfect, the current system does give some representation of the people thru the primary process. The primaries are relatively new in American politics. The candidates were chosen by the Party elite as recently as the 60's.

This year was the first year in a while that the primary vote "counted" for GOP in MN.
"Are votes binding? (And what does that mean?) For the first time in recent years, Minnesota's Republican caucuses will be binding — which means that the delegates it sends to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this summer must be allocated in a way that's proportional to Tuesday's statewide caucus results." http://www.mprnews.org/stor...dential-caucus-guide

Self funded just means we don't know where his money is coming from....
But yeah, I've been saying this the whole time too.

Also, if it were blackmail, would it make more sense to just either demand the money for herself or he campaign or to demand that he campaign FOR her. Again, no way Trump is a Hillary plant.

The self funding part is BS, he provides some of the money to run the campaign but it is A LOAN which can be payed back or taken as a loss on his taxes. If he was self funded than why is there a "Donate" button on his web site?

As with all words in politics, "self-funded" can have many meanings.
Just like Mexico paying for the wall. Do people really think that Mexico would write a check with "Border Control Wall" in the memo line?
Literal thinking abounds. Too many people don't even realize that there is a 'box' that they could think outside of.......

I guess in this instance he won't be overly influenced and pressured to reciprocate with political favors. He knows that any donation he receives is simply another dollar that COULD have come from his own pocket but doesn't have to. I seriously doubt that having the DONATE option or the sale of merchandise will have ANY effect on his campaign plans.

I agree and the people who scoff at the "Trump is self funded" claim, conveniently ignore the fact that he will eat the remainder of the cost
if when donations fall short. While Trump is hammered for this claim, the other candidates are begging for donations from anyone and everyone. As for Cruz, he doesn't care who donates if it funds his campaign. I wonder if he would stand on that statement if he learned the KKK donated to his campaign. If Trump had said he didn't care where his donations came from, Cruz would be leading the charge to accuse Trump of lacking the moral character to lead. There are plenty of reasons to oppose a Trump nomination, but this campaign funding BS is quite petty. Trump is his own special interest donor. The rest are still being being bought by theirs.
