Those numbers are somewhat confusing to me. If 93% of cases are unvaccinated, that means 7% are vaccinated. But over all the vaccinated, only .0018% are breakthroughs and of those who need hospitalization, 80% are over 65 years old. You fall into the breakthrough that doesn’t need hospitalization. That is statewide too.

There's no doubt that the Trump administration's Operation Warp Speed deserves a gigantic "thumbs up" for expediting the development of Covid vaccines, but to say that "the United States created the vaccines and shipped them to Canada" is going a little overboard. Not way overboard, but far enough overboard that some overboard reduction messaging is recommended; to wit:
The initial development of the Pfizer vaccine was funded by Pfizer itself.
Later in the game (so to speak), the Pfizer vaccine's manufacturing and distribution was advantaged by the Warp Speed program,
The Pfizer vaccine accounts for about two thirds of the vaccinations in Canada, as of this date.

Cute.
A really dumb deflection and unsurprising.
Now explain what Phony Tony is an "expert" at other than being your beloved bureaucrat.
He has no degree in virology
He no degree in microbiology
He has no degree in public health
He has no formal education in research of communicable diseases
He doesn't have a current license to practice medicine in any state
He doesn't maintain any medical practice insurance in any state
He hasn't (legally) examined or treated a patient in well over 35 years
He spectacularly mismanaged the HIV / AIDS epidemic which also cost thousands of lives[This message has been edited by randye (edited 08-07-2021).]

This is an odd response Rinse. Pfizer is an American company, all the global vaccines were developed in America. Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer... all American companies, all developed vaccines.
So, as I said... the reason Canada has a COVID-19 vaccine is because of America. So apparently, we are doing something right... even though some Canadians on here seem to think we're doing it all wrong. You're welcome...

Edit to say, we're doing it wrong. None of these injections should have been released. Canada has life pretty easy. The less you have to do, the easier it is to do it well. They have a population similar to California in a nation larger than the USA. I'd love to visit much of it, but not live there.

The bottom line is that almost 3x as many people have died from Covid in the US compared with Canada (with normalized populations); the actual number is something like 2.6x or 2.7x. That is a fact. The/my problem is that many of you posting feel more comfortable with your numbers, percentages, what doctor said what, what source of information best confirms what you want to see, etc. Do those percentages that show you likely won't die really matter? Don't any of you look up and say "wait a minute, how come so many more are dying in the US.....could we be doing something different?". I know, you'll come back with more BS and "facts" and figures to show that the issue really isn't that serious. But remember, almost 3x as many have died already. At what point do you think that maybe you should look at what other countries are doing better? Your numbers and percentages are real people that have died or will die if you don't do something different. |

Fear mongering does not equate to reality. I don't know anyone who has died of this and I know plenty who have had it. One friend died with it, an untreated diabetic with weight related heart condition who was grossly obese. She didn't seek medical attention with pneumonia until she couldn't walk across the room which is when paramedics came. And she refused transfer to the regional covid hospital. She had a "do not resuscitate" wish in place. She still almost made it.
People on the thread have said injected people don't die from covid19 while data posted says they do. And break-through cases actually do scare me.
Hastily concocted injections will absolutely run risk of creating treatment resistant disease. We see it in 3rd world countries and in suburbia where over/under medicating occurs.[This message has been edited by sourmash (edited 08-07-2021).]

When the variants first were announced I posted how we'll need new injections created and tailored to them. maryjane said No, actually the originals are shown effective against them.

All of the globally distributed Covid vaccines have manifestly not been developed in the U.S., or by the U.S.
To oversimplify, and to exaggerate in this way, is to take a step along a road whose ultimate destination is Perversion of the Truth.

You just lumped all the vaccines together. The mRNA vaccines are a whole different ballgame. I got the Sinovac vaccine here in Shanghai. It's a traditional deactivated virus vaccine and not the mRNA and a whole magnitude less effective at prevention. I'm just hoping it keeps me out of the morgue. Keeping me out of the hospital is a bonus.
Right now, with 65% of the population vaccinated, China is getting hit with another wave of infections. I'm getting tested every 3 days now.
