Its one of the more straight forward swaps. In short you will need new mounts, a tensioner, low alternator mount, new exhaust system, fuel pump and connection of water, transmission and fuel lines. You will also need to fabricate a new wiring harness, The swap is well documented here in the archives by fieroaustin and others but before you begin you must realize that 3800 engines although good engines are an old and dated design. It may be hard finding a low mileage 3800 engine in good shape. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. Easiest way to do it is to buy a kit that provides all the installation components you need. There's a few from West Coast Fiero, as well as from Rodney Dickman (if I'm not mistaken).
I think you're the same one who asked this question on Reddit. I know you're rebuilding the 2.8 also in the mean time. I think it's a wise choice, but you're not answering a lot of the questions.
Regarding your 2.8:
- Why do you need to rebuild it? Is it down on power, not running properly? - Have you thought about doing a 3.1 rebuild on it, or are you looking to do it as cheaply as possible? (you could literally replace bearings, rings, and seals)
On the 3800: Most people pick(ed) the 3800 because they were plentiful at the time, and produced good power. But like I said on Reddit, there's a lot of other engine options today that might be better. A series 1 3800 from 1989-early 90s only puts out 20 more horsepower than your 2.8 V6/60 does (165 hp). The newer Series 2 3800 motors that most people swap in, that only puts out 170hp... which is only 30 more than your 2.8. There's the supercharged version, which is what many people want (like what was in the Grand Prix GTP), and that puts out 205hp or 225hp depending on year. This is not that significant. Of course, you can modify those engines as well... but it's still a really heavy motor that weighs a bit more than the 2.8 does.
Like I said, there's many newer motors that you can swap in, that have more horsepower, and will even be cheaper since they're more common. An Ecotec turbo for example... the LNF from the Cobalt / Sunfire puts out 260 horsepower, can be mated to a 6-Speed or 5-Speed manual that's readily available, and you'll get ~30+ MPG.
You could even go with a 3400 V6/60 that will basically bolt up to your car "as is," and even mount to your existing transmission, and you'll get 185hp and a much more modern computer system. Those are still fairly common in the junkyard since they were used well into the mid 2000s.
Just something to think about. You've asked about the 3800, and there's a lot of options... I just want you to know that there's many more better options today if cost is a concern.

Just to show as an example, you can literally buy a brand new LNF Turbo crate motor from several places for around $3k.
Here's one on eBay for $3,200... brand new, still in the wrapping: https://www.ebay.com/itm/167087724267 ... the dude has 4 of them for sale. I may just buy one because it's so insanely cheap, and it's such an awesome motor.
And this is crazy... here's one for $3k, low miles, comes with the everything, ECM, transmission, you name it... ready to drop into something. $3k: https://www.ebay.com/itm/326018139766
I could totally buy this and drop it into a Volvo P1800... (this transmission wouldn't work for yours, because it's longitudinal).
