Loose dipstick tube (Page 1/1)

what should I do about the loose dipstick tube on my v6. You can wiggle it and it comes out with ease. I want to get it so it stuck on there like it should so no water gets into the oil.

If your talking about the engine oil dipstick tube, you can replace the o ring on the end that goes into the block with one of a correct size, I used a viton one from an assortment, along with some silicone just in case. There should also be a 10mm headed screw that fastens the dipstick tube to the dog bone/engine lifting brackets that are above the exhaust manifold on the front side, there should be a hole in the bracket that the bolt threads into, no nut, just self tapping.

I'm only talking about the o ring on the end of the tube that goes into the engine block, there should only be one, I don't know what o rings there are on the dipstick itself where it enters the tube. Here's a picture of how the dipstick tube should be solidly bolted to the bracket. Red is the tube, green arrow points to the head of the bolt that connects the tube to the larger bracket. Should be directly above the spark plug for cyl#2 (front right)

If you are talking about a transmission dipstick then that's different and I know nothing about those.

now that I'm looking at the photo I see the problem. in the photo there's that black bracket with the massive hole. your tube is a bit away from it. mine is leaning on it. i should bolt it down so it stays in place. that should fix it. thx

Yes, without that bolt there is nothing but the o ring keeping the dipstick at all stable, with the bolt it is rock solid.

do you think you can get me all the measurements for the bolt that holds it in place. or if you have a link to buy it. I think I'm missing it. I would need length, thread size, and nut size.

There is no nut, it is "self tapping" (weak threads already in the metal bracket), not super strong, but it doesn't need to be. Check the bolts that hold the air filter and evap canister to the strut tower, if my memory serves me right, they should be the same (my air filter and evap canister are relocated, so I don't necessarily have an easy way to verify), if so then you can compare that and get another one like it.
