While researching to get a new stereo head unit for our '84, I had occasion to look up DIN chassis dimensions - single is 2" x 7", double is 4" x7". Then, I measured the factory unit, and the confusion set in. Seems it falls between single and double at 3-1/2" tall. However, that also makes it taller than a typical DIN-and-a-half chassis. I haven't been out to the car to measure the opening yet; that may shed more light on the situation. Or, not. Wife is wanting a unit that will play CD's and cassette tapes, as well as inputs for USB, auxiliary and Bluetooth. I lean heavily toward the Kenwood brand based on my experience with it and my perception of the quality. Any advice or anecdotal input would be greatly appreciated. TIA - Chris

Thanks, 'guru. I thought I was remembering that, but as I get closer to retirement age, I question my memory more and more.

Just by the way, I did find, at Crutchfield, 6 1.5-DIN head units by RetroSound that do not play CD's OR cassettes, but accepts digital media input and receives AM and FM signals. Kinda spendy, though.

I just tried using the forum's "FieroSearch" feature to find any reference to something I thought I saw in the forum - somebody, I thought, was repairing/refreshing the factory Delco stereo heads. Real bad memory on my part, but the search turned up goose eggs. Anybody else remember this, and/or who it was?

I've had this one in my car for, I dunno, 15 years now?

It's a 1.5 DIN drop in replacement. No cassette player but then again... Cassettes? Really? 🤨 Also, no USB or Bluetooth, but you can use the AUX in to connect a small BT receiver.
There are two models, the DEH-P47DH and the DEH-P77DH which are almost identical except for pre-amp support IIRC.

Yes, some 'old-school' members STILL enjoy cassettes; I have recorded nearly a hundred tapes of my favorite albums.
And yes, I still enjoy spinning vinyl too....

I'll give up my cassettes when they're pried out of my cold dead hands!
