So, I'm beginning to "re-imagine" (I hate that word, but it kinda fits here) the speaker set-up in our '84 Fiero. May end up adding speakers with component setups behind the seats and putting the tweeters in the headrests. Unless anyone knows of a source for reasonable-quality full-range speakers of the correct size for the headrests. Which, by the way, does anybody recall what size those speakers actually are? I know they're going to be awfully small; 2-inch rings a bell, but I could be way off. Any/all input is, as always, greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance - Chris

Hi! The speakers are a SLIM 3.5", and there are several decent replacement speakers for them. I just bought a set (3") and have tested them (at least one set) in one of the seats, and it sounded really good:

I don't know that you'd want to put tweeters in there. It would likely be pretty piercing right behind your head. There's a couple of threads, which I'll post below... and in at least one of them, someone (or two) complained about that...

Also, this will help... there's no other distinguishable way to know what is plus or minus:
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue
Also take note... when you open / remove the seat upholstery, you'll notice the seat headrest is black. When I first saw this, I thought... nasty... some dude must have had really greasy hair and this is gross. But it occurred to me, the seats are painted this way so that you don't see anything through the speaker holes.
EDIT: Also... I'm no electrical engineer, I got a CompSCI, but the factory speakers are 10 Ohms of resistance, and when paired together (left and left rear speakers, and right and right rear speakers), it makes 5 Ohms of resistance. If you were to use 4 Ohm speakers, you'd end up with 2 Ohms of resistance, which just won't work. So those speakers (above) that I bought are 8 Ohm each, and when combined, give you 4 Ohms of resistance, which is really what you want (and also what my daughter's front speakers are as well).[This message has been edited by 82-T/A [At Work] (edited 12-11-2024).]

Agreed. I had put 2-ways (with tweeter in center) in the headrest. Way to shrill at times.
So I replaced them with a 3" full range 8 ohm speaker w/neodymium magnet. I have a preference for neodymium magnets because of their reduced size. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/...L/000031-5.html#p182

I bought my seat speakers from the Fiero Store for $59.95 per seat. Their specs show 25 watt RMS, 50 watt max, & 4 ohm voice coil. I still have them in the box at home if you need to get pictures or more specs.
