Whining whistle noise accelerating. (Page 1/1)
MERATIME APR 11, 02:49 AM
Hello Fiero Team,

1987 SE , Duke w Manual - Recently started hearing whinny noise when starting vehicle & presssing on the accelerator in neutral. The whining pitch increases with RPM change when standing still in neutral. The whining seems to be coming from the lower engine area near the firewall, not the alternator area. I do not have a compressor. I checked the plastic TB hose, no leaks. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I brought a new water pump, thermostat, sp wires, head gasket change, tune up near 1,000 miles ago (7 months ago). Thanks in advance.

Iffy bearing in Alt, WP, or Tensioner could do that.
Alt has 2 fans, only 1 you see, or rotor touching crap can do that too.

You can use a metal rod, mechanics stethoscope, or my favorite (the one I have), a bunch of ratchet extensions, stick one end in your ear, and touch the other end to metal parts of the engine, you'll be able to tell where it is coming from (or at least where it isn't coming from) that way.

could possibly be a bad intake gasket. the vacuum leak can cause a whistle. With a can of brake clean you can spray around the manifold to intake ports while the engine is running and if the idle changes you found the leak . good luck sleek

Hello 1985, Patrick & Sleek,

I purchased one of those auto stethoscopes today at Harbor Freight. I will also spray around the manifold and monitor any outcomes. My plan is to diagnose the issue this weekend. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again!
