HVAC system (Page 1/1)

I cannot get cool fresh air from the vent function on my 87 GT? My AC is non functional (missing parts) and every control setting sends heat into the cabin. What is required for complete access to the HVAC system motorized doors? I have checked and cleaned the blower and fresh air intake and I removed the inside panel by the convenience center and there are no visible issues. I can hear the motorized doors moving when I select different modes but something is not right. Do I need to remove the entire dash and center console to be able to take the heater box apart? TIA DP

If you want to get the box out or get easy access, yes, the dash has to come out. You can access parts of the box with the dash in place, through the heater core cover on the far right (4 bolts), or the cover in the front compartment where the evaporator is (requires disconnecting the heater core hoses required). If the system is always blowing hot air, it's likely the blend door is stuck. This can be accessed through the heater core cover. The slider on the A/C controls should move the door back and forth in the box. The cable may be broken or the door jammed.

You can see some pictures of the box halfway down the thread here:

Thanks RWD for the detailed reply. I think I need to take the heater core cover off again and poke around. DL
