Hi there,
1985 GT 2.8.
the trunk release in the vehicle has never worked since i got this car (10 yrs now). and since the pandemic i am tackling different things to keep my busy. so now the trunk release. and i have some questions.
the release mechanism in the trunk. it has once wire that i think is going to the wrong place. it comes out on the left side of the vehicle, beside the air filter, then disappears somewhere. Upon research there is a 4 plug wire on the right side that this should plug into. is this correct? and if so, what would the other 3 wires on that connection be for?
also the switch in the car. upon testing, i have found the power, but have not been able to identify the connection that would send power to the trunk release. Would someone know which wire runs to the trunk release, suspecting i need to run a new wire to the trunk for this to work.
I will go fishing for this 4 prong connector on the passenger side in the engine bay, just in case i can find it. but everything else seems to work on the vehicle so don't know.
Any help to answer any of my questions would be appreciated. Brent.

The decklid release signal appears at C500.
Starting from C500, a wire then runs in the engine harness, then terminates to a single-position connector near the LH decklid hinge. A single wire snaked in the decklid brings the power from the single-position connector to the release solenoid. The release solenoid is grounded via the striker; it therefore does not work with the trunk popped.
See here for details: http://www.fiero.nl/forum/F...HTML/136121.html#p13
1985 does not have the 4-position connector.

Thanks for this. i had corresponded with a guy on Facebook that was adamant that i wasn't seeing any wiring on my drivers side. he told me i didn't know what i was talking about.
at least this proves that this wiring i am seeing is related. now i have to trace it and see where it goes. maybe some testing to make sure i have a connection and then checking the switch to make sure it is still good also.
I have a new switch coming in the mail, so will concentrate on wiring for now.
Cheers.

86-88 trunk plugs should have a clip that uses 1 hole in side of hinge bracket to keep plug etc far away from exhaust. Factory clip may get wreck but need to tie wrap to same part.

86-88 trunk was 3 or 4 wires to the latch from that plug. 3 wires for all use w/ the ajar switch on the latch. (Also turns on Trunk light if you have this option.) 4th wire is only present w/ PT option.
84-85 has a single wire in the lid only when have the PT option. Make sure the single "pin" plug is far away from the exhaust. Maybe coat the pin w/ bulb or brake grease too since isn't a Weather Pack plug. I think This contact removes same others like my Cave, Defect & Connection notes w/ small wire/screwdriver so can clean etc easy.
PT solenoid gets ground thru the latch and loop when closed. Make sure latch is tight when closed or have iffy/no PT ground. See my Cave, Trunk Release------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. (Jurassic Park)
