How hard is it to remove? To have repaired or replaced? I don't really want a project, but This car is very , very clean other than the 5 spd, sounding like a nut cracker while in gear.[This message has been edited by p-car (edited 04-28-2020).]

If I did it, it would be a project.

both the axles and the transmission are fairly easy to remove if you have done that sort of thing before and have the tools to do it. ------------------ "I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. Why do you need to replace an axle?

Replacing drive axles in a Fiero is relatively easy. But keep in mind, the transmission oil needs to be drained beforehand. If you plan to work on the car yourself, you should get a service manual.
Speaking of which, here's a link to a service manual: https://drive.google.com/op...N6KqMRXVQeVlKa3ZFa00
That's the factory service manual for the '86 Fiero. But it will also work for '85 and '87. The '84 and '88 Fieros are different, so some of the info won't apply.

Thanks for uploading that, but it's also worth mentioning that there are wiring differences between 85, and 86/87.
The 86+ had CHMSL wiring, the 85 did not, and I believe the 86+ moved the speakers from the headrests to the "B" pillar. some of the connector faces are also different.
other differences also exist, but mechanically speaking, most of the information provided by an 86 FSM is useable for 85-87, and to a lesser degree, 84 and 88.------------------ "I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. The axles need to be popped out of the transmission, usually by using a short prybar or two. The axle is retained by a spring retaining ring that is in a groove in the stub that is inserted into the transmission. Do a google search and I'm sure something will come up that gives a good step-by-step. The hardest part of the job (with hand tools) is getting the axle nut off of the end of the axle. It is torqued to 180#, and the new nut needs to be torqued to that as well.
What is the matter with the axle you are planning to replace?
