i was looking into doing the common 3800 engine swap into my 85 gt. I just wanted to make sure that the getrag f40 transmission bolted right up, or if i would have to get an adapter of some kind

Welcome to the forum!

The F40 has nothing to do with getrag... The F40 is a 6 speed manual, the Getrag is a 5 speed. two completely different transmissions.

The F40 is available in several bellhousing patterns, one of which will bolt to the 3800. That version only came with the 3.9L in the 2006 and 2007 Pontiac G6. All other F40 will not have the proper bellhousing.

The F40 is a great transmission, but one of the most costly to install.

thanks for the clarification. so to my knowledge then the other option is the f23 transmission. is there a specific year or anything i have to look out for so it will mate up to the engine?
