Saving GT taillights options? (Page 1/2)

Looking for ideas on what others have done to save delaminating and cracked lenses? Any and all options welcome , gluing / painting , cutting out/ etc I need to figure out a solution.

I saw a set of lenses on a local car where the clear portion had been cut away. The remainder was repainted on the inside and reassembled to the housing. It actually didn't look too bad. There's little you can do with cracks because even if you seal them, they will still show.

But, you could wait until kgoodyear releases his new lens replacements and go with those.

Any photos of this setup? Thanks

I believe Keith Goodyears GT len's covers are the solution. I've seen them up close and they are excellent. Why mess around with things when you can have a "one and done" solution that will last for years

No. There were some in their original Craigslist ad but that was long ago and the car was eventually sold for scrap because they couldn't get anyone to work on it for free. They wanted our club to get it running and on the road for them. It was in sad shape. Body damage.

I met a guy at a local show who tried the painted GT lens' and he told me that within a year the paint flaked off. It proved to be only a bandaid fix.

Somebody did not do a good job then. NOT saying that you are wrong here. Just that I painted mine ten years and 40,000 miles ago. Still holding strong.

I would say that the lens was probably not sanded first and/or the clearcoat may have been spray paint that was buffed out. If the person used a urethane clearcoat on those lenses, they should have outlived the car.

I used IMSA's method on a GT I sold years ago, still see that car every few weeks at the local Auto Zone and they look perfect. It's been quite a few years since I refurbed them. He also drives it during the winter months last I knew~~

I am waiting for Goodyears lenses for my own Fiero's.
