Its in the A/C line near the accumulator and is used to control refrigerant flow. If you are doing an A/C R134a conversion it can be replaced with a variable orifice tube for increased performance. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. you can spent an extra $15 or so and get an orifice valve that improves system performance drastically over stock with just the tube. ------------------ "I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. The variable orifice tube increases system performance at low engine speeds no matter which refrigerant its using and should ALWAYS be added the first time you have the system open. It's just that much bang for the buck.

I am not seeing where it would be, is it in the hose going to the evaporator?

it should be inside the lower tube on the evaporator. for it to do it's job, it needs to create a pressure drop in the evaporator. ------------------ "I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. Lots of folks have used the more expensive variable orifice but my experience with 2 successive variable orifices when I replaced my compressor and dryer is that they caused excessive pressure on the low side. One of them had to be dug out of it's housing. We went with a standard orifice and the system worked great. $2 Vs. $20.
