Amp/sub/speaker Wiring tips and questions (Page 1/1)
Robodog_X920 MAY 23, 03:35 PM
Hello. I bought an amp and subwoofer on Monday, set up the wiring to splice off of my equalizer, just to realize it might not work with that setup. The EQ runs the front speakers through the radio. I think I might have to splice the Left and Right cables that go from the head unit to the EQs left and right. I also plan on installing headrest speakers and running those through the EQ. Now on to my question. Where should I put the EQs power, and ground? It needs to be on the battery, but being a mid-engine and the wiring not lining up as easily as a front engine car, it makes it more complicated. If you need it, I can send pictures of the mess I call wiring. It is full of splices and ends. What kind of fuse should be used for power, and is it OK to splice the audio Left and Right cables? Also if you have any tips on wiring speaker, amps, EQs, and subs, let me know. I am just starting to dive into the audio world.

Just a generic picture of adding a sub...
What head unit/equalizer/amplifier you have makes a difference on what you'll need to integrate.

You didn't give enough details of what you have... (pics, speakers, make/model of everything...)
Hopefully the sub doesn't need an enclosure the size of a bar fridge to work properly.

And what is a good battery for this setup, and maybe alternator? I am going to need a new battery anyways because it met the serpentine belt pulley.

You should have read up BEFORE you bought all your stuff.
Did you get the "Bigger is Better" sales pitch?

How are you going to fit this stuff IN the car? Figure that out first.

I assume you're thinking of putting the 15" sub in the front tub area and port it into the car.
People have done that - it doesn't work so well. All the bass is "heard" outside the car.

RESIZE your pictures in the future

I have 15+ trophies/awards in 2 years that I competed (1992/1993)
And I only had 50 watts RMS to each sub at the time!! No shortage of bass!!

Construction hasn’t changed, but made some equipment changes.
I have changed some speakers out in the front around.

The sub box design I am using said it can fit a 15". I am not going for bigger is better, more like what fits my budget with good sound. The site description confused me, so I couldn't tell if it would fit in the box or not, but it was also in my price range, so I bought it anyway. When I get the sub box materials I will mock it up then, but that's in a couple of paychecks.

For the time being, you can cut and tape a cardboard box together of the same size to see where you can put it.
