EVAP canisters availability? (Page 1/2)
cebix APR 27, 05:16 AM
I think mine has gone bad but I can't find any online. Are they still available? Are there any "universal" ones that will fit? Thanks.

I don't know what vehicle, but some have used the round plastic ball type vacuum canisters from later GM vehicles. I've checked FieroSails Parts Interchange List and there's no mention of he vacuum canister in there.

Can you still get on FieroSails? How?

I found one in a 90s era car in the junkyard. It did help to get rid of some of the raw gas smell in my garage. I'm considering taking apart my old one and using new activated charcoal.

Sorry. I misread the OP. I was thinking Cruise Canister.

Gall757, yes, I can still get into the FieroSails information. Georgia Fieros has it stored on our server, but due to our limited bandwidth, access is limited. I don't know the particulars of that, though.

cebix, I'll go back and look again. I think there was something there for the EVAP canister.

The interchange list can be found in our Expert Tech Advice section. The rest of the FieroSails website is stored elsewhere.

There is no mention of the EVAP Canister in the interchange list.

Unlikely to find thru any parts vendors as new.
Maybe on Ebay etc but many won't ship to Poland.

Just why to you think the can is "Bad?" Because very few will do that.
If you force liquid petrol up the vent tube that will kill them but GM made this hard to do for same reason.

"Rebuilding" maybe an option. Use same size Active Charcoal in it. Exactly how to empty and refill have no clue. Maybe snap, glued or welding the can's plastic parts together and very hard to get them apart.

other GM cars have same can. See http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/140174.html
Other old cars have similar operation but different shape shape. Some only have 1 vac line to a ported vac outlet on carb TBI TB. But Some are ECM/PCM control purging and electronic valve on the can or anywhere in the vac line.

cebix, contact TopNotch of the Georgia Fiero Club. He's a PFF member, too. We have several EVAP canisters in the club Parts Barn.

You can consider going with Plan "B". If I had to go this route on that shape canister I'd drill a 1 inch hole in the side, pour or rinse out the spent carbon and refill it with new. Use a rubber expanding freeze plug to seal the hole and call it a day.

Thanks guys. I think mine's bad because sometimes I get a slight gas fume smell out of it. But now that I've read some more I think I have to check my fuel lines.
