'88 Cradle Upper Strut Relocation Brackets (Page 1/2)
Ravant JUN 19, 03:59 PM
I'm not dead. (Woo! Or boo, depends who you ask.) Life just... hurt my face for a long time. But now I'm back.

Unfortunately, it seems Held Motorsports isn't a thing anymore, and along with them not being a thing anymore, the strut relocation brackets to do the '88 cradle swap is also not a thing that I can seem to find anywhere. I'd be willing to fabricate up my own, but does anyone have the measurements or a template I can use to fab one up? Or better yet, has any other company filled the void yet so I don't have to do the fabrication?

Ask Fieroguru on here. He has all the info.

Yar, I was in touch with him via e-mail. I don't think there's anybody out there making an adapter plate anymore. So looks like I'm gonna have to figure it out. I wish I had an '88 to take the measurements on.

I think it's something like 43mm inward toward center and 26mm forward toward the firewall if I want stock '88 placement. Problem is, I'm not sure if those are exact numbers, and after a quick search on the forum here, I couldn't find a confirm. I'm also trying to figure out what type and thickness of steel I should use for the plate and the ring that'll hold the coilover's top in place to keep things safe/secure.

If anyone's got confirmations/answers for the above, I am all ears and would be very grateful for the advice/help.

This thread has most of the information you are looking for: 1" forward, 1 5/8" inboard on each side
http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/139618.html

I think the previous kits used 1/4" steel for the bracket, which is likely due to the center of the strut being off-centered from the mounting studs.
The stock spring hats and the ones I use for my coilover kits are roughtly 1/8" thick, but the strut bushing is centered between the studs, so they are less prone to flexing.
The centering sleeve for the spring can be anything from exhaust tube to schedule 80 pipe, but you want to leave about 1/8" clearance room between the sleeve and the spring.

Thank you, much. This is exactly what I needed. When I'm done, I'll see about keeping the template and just opening it up to the community at large, since the cradle swap doesn't seem a popular enough mod anymore to actually sell the part. Maybe make a CAD/CAM file for anyone that wants to CNC it.

I know, old thread, shame on me.

If anyone is interested in buying the brackets, Arraut Motorsports in nunica, MI is still around and will make you a pair. Found out they're down the street from me!

Oh. My GHAWD. They're still active?! That is wonderful news! That saves me bucketloads of headaches on this build. (Things are on pause pending construction of my new house, life gets in the way and all that...) but ohman. Thank you for the info!

They may still be affiliated with West Shore Fabricators, phone number is 616-837-0425....If that is true, or you get a working number for Arraut, let us know here.....
