I'm I going to need to buy the silver cable to get it to work properly.

Yes, the Chassis to Motor Ground Strap is a MUST!

Rodney Dickman's is STILL "In Stock"

Not necessarily. From the factory, there was already a ground strap from the engine to the frame. It won't look as nice as the new one posted above, but if it's still in place, and if both ends are clean and tight, it'll do the job.

Lots of info regarding ground straps in this old (but very good) thread... EVERYONE with a V6 please Read

And this particular post from that thread is quite helpful...

There are 12 locations for ground attachments. The ones that matter as far as the V-6 engine is concerned are:

G501 - near the dipstick coming from battery (large diameter)
G502 - behind battery coming from battery (small diameter)
G503 - underneath throttle body coming from harness
G504 - underneath throttle body coming from harness
G505 - passenger side bracket for trunk hinge coming from G501
G202 - underneath console passenger side below ECM

Clean the grounds. There is no need to add additional ground wires if the grounds are clean.

ok. that makes a lot more sense. Now you did say the 2 wires need to go onto that one stud. I'm I going to need to buy the silver cable to get it to work properly.

Yes, you will need to buy it if you don't have it already there (or in a pile of parts, etc).

This is the one I got, cheap, large, good looking, been on there for 8 months and still looks like new, and it fit the studs well (had another one from rock auto that didn't fit the studs very well, the holes were to small).

Yes, Patrick is giving a more broad overview on all the grounds,

G501 is the head stud we are talking about, notice how the first line says large wire coming from battery, and G505 is passenger side hinge bracket coming from G501. so the ground path goes from the battery to the head stud via the battery cable, then from the head stud to the body via the ground strap, both connected at G501, the head stud near the dipstick, with the other end of the ground strap connected to the truck hinge (g505).
table copied below:

G501 - near the dipstick coming from battery (large diameter)
G502 - behind battery coming from battery (small diameter)
G503 - underneath throttle body coming from harness
G504 - underneath throttle body coming from harness
G505 - passenger side bracket for trunk hinge coming from G501
G202 - underneath console passenger side below ECM

You do not have to buy the ground strap if you already have it, if it is hanging off the head stud way down there, then that's fine, just reattach it, if you do not have a ground strap at all, then yes you must buy a new one, and attach it and the battery cable to the head stud.
