While changing the pickup coil might be cheap insurance....it sure is labor intensive. For me it depends on the mileage/age and visual condition of the pickup coil whether I'd change it if my IM went bad.

I can get them from O'Rielly Auto Parts for the Camaro/Firebird 3.4 V6.
