Found the problem, the pot metal switch actuator rack is broken in half, since I need to remove the lower housing to get at it, I am thinking of just removing the key interlock ( manual Transmission safety lever) especially since I know for sure the AT ignition switch interlock cable feature is in place. What do you guys think??

Yep. Yard that thing out of there while you're in there.

My newest update is that I have tried everything except a torch to remove the pivot pin from the switch side of my column with no luck, the other side came out fairly snugly but it came out, I have a machine screw bottomed out in the middle of it but it will not budge..I sprayed it with some anti rust blaster to hopefully get it loose, if anyone has a tip on how to get this out, I would appreciate it. I am also trying locally to secure another column..

Try this thread. Lots of pictures and commentary on taking the steering column apart. http://www.fiero.nl/forum/F...2/HTML/088020-3.html Midway thru the thread, around March 10, 2011.
