So I took off the detent assembly cover and the detent with the springs and balls, to check if those rods were in the correct positions (neutral), and they weren’t. I got those lined up correctly, put the annoying detent with balls and springs back in, and could feel an obvious difference with shifter arms. I could actually change gears on the bench and it definitely felt different than before. So I slapped it back in the car and hooked up the shifter cables and it felt right this time. Ended up reconnecting everything, putting antifreeze in it, and tried driving it for the first time.... Reverse worked just fine, but it wouldn’t go into 1-4 gears. Only 5th and reverse..... so with my tail between my legs I backed it into the garage and left it. Shifting cables still looked to be in the correct places and secure.... WTF!?? Soooo frustrating! I didn’t touch anything when I did the Rodney Dickman input shaft bearing, you only work with the bell housing side of the case. But I guess I could’ve screwed something up while I did that, or maybe this is why the car went to the junkyard in the first place. ???

Just a bump...
I've never done any of this, so I can't help.
But others have completely disassembled their Getrag. Maybe they can chime in on what may be wrong and what to check for.
This is clearly a FWD Getrag transmission. I expect you are using Dickman's cable linkage conversion kit on the shifter shaft? http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum9/HTML/000038.html[This message has been edited by fierosound (edited 04-26-2020).]

No I’m using the cables from the 89 Grand Prix that everything came from, since it’s in my 2006 Grand Prix fwd.

Gotcha.
It shifts fine on the bench but not in the car. All I can think of is you have some mismatched shifting components now.
Reverse and 5th are on the same "gate" of the shift pattern. So Select cable isn't working properly. Should center on 2-3 gate, and need effort to get to 1-2 and 5-R. Maybe you can't use the 2006 floor shifter with the 1989 transmission? The "throw" is wrong??
Oh... was this a 5-speed swap into an automatic car?[This message has been edited by fierosound (edited 04-28-2020).]

I’m using the 89 Grand Prix shifter, and went out to watch the shifter linkage moving the arms on the transmission while the wife went through the gears. It looks and feels like it’s changing gears, the same as it did on the bench. But then the car just doesn’t move, and it sounds like the transmission is moving once the clutch is out in any of the non working gears.

I have seen 282's get stuck in the 5/R gate, but then the shifter won't move into the other gates. Are you sure you're getting the select (side-to-side) cable range of motion at the transmission?

Do you have the roll pin in the select linkage?
