FWIW, the oil filter on the V6 is on the front side of the block. Pretty much directly above the catalytic converter, between the starter and the A/C compressor.

The four speed has a drain plug, but is filled through the speed sensor opening. The speed sensor housing has a "FULL" line on it.

There is no need to remove any heat shielding to change the filter. It is not accessible from above. Well, unless you are Inspector Gadget....
