Replacing ignition part and still frying ICM still means something else is still wrong. My cave only highlight some common problems. There is more that can kill ICM beside heat but no point posting in this thread.
But this... Several things can pass any test FSM has and still be bad because you can't test some problems w/ DVM etc. New Ignition coils must be ground. Coil's steel frame can generate problems including kill the ICM w/o the frame bolted/wired to the engine. (HEI Coil on Cap for V8 has frame to ground wire.) Just One ICM Mounting screw is the Main ground for the whole HEI system. If loose dirty or otherwise does not make a very good connection then you will fry ICMs. And That ICM "ground" wire from the ECM... Is Not a Power Ground for the HEI system.

I am not sure if the recall changes to the GT would impact this, but mine wasn't done, it is still as it came from the factory, so I am going to make the documented required changes and see if that gets me anywhere as well...well, all of it except removing the rubber seal from the back of the cover, that doesn't make any sense to me. |

So your going to buy a Peltier setup w/o buying a thermometer that can read temps while driving like most others claiming the Fiero engine bay is hot all the time?
While I can make a data logger to read many temps at a time w/o actually looking at it... Thermometer with K-type thermocouple that cost 30-60$ on Amazon and someone to read it will do that. Maybe a bit more to have an extension cord because most have 1 yard/meter probe they come with.
Have you even read the Fire Recall TSB from GM? Even if you have, most FSM and TSB are hard to understand even for "Factory Train" GM Dealer Service people.
Fiero Fire Recalls and Heat shields installed/changed has Nothing to do with this problem. Recall Heat shield is on front head and exhaust manifold and try to 2 things for V6... Tries to block oil leaks getting on the exhaust. Tries to block IR from exhaust heating and cooking the Valve Cover gasket etc to prevent such leaks to start w/.
Removing the rubber off the deck lid have Nothing to do with this problem. I believe they where trying to blame everything that could dump anything on the exhaust. Rubber edge traps crap and drops it when the lid is open. Most pipes cool fast but the Cat can be hot for awhile after shutdown and maybe start a fire. Removing the rubber Does Not cool the engine bay more in any significant way.[This message has been edited by theogre (edited 06-30-2019).]

Remote mount in Fiero Trunk isn't a great plan for Same reason Not to mount MSD box or audio amps... Because that area gets hot from exhaust and weather and no airflow. (V6 engine blower get air to blow thru a hole in the wall. Not thru the trunk.) Ignore the amount of whatever get put into there often fill up a lot of space or short out or slams into the ICM. Some Remote mount on other frame parts in the engine bay but farther away from exhaust and plenty of airflow to cool.

That earns you a negative rating and a reported post to the moderator. This is a friendly forum, mr.newbie - keep it clean and respectful!
You want to talk that way the do it via PM.[This message has been edited by olejoedad (edited 06-30-2019).]

I have always maintained respect and been friendly to people on here, but I have had enough of the Ogre. Sorry if I offended you. Ogre offends people, calls them idiots and so forth, but no one bothers to tell him to back off, take it easy, etc. Rules are rules, if they apply to one person, they apply to all people, not just "noobs". If you want this forum to be a resource for people, and want new people to get involved in the Fiero Community, you need to put a leash on Ogre. He may help some people, but he runs off just as many.
I believe I will now take a self imposed penalty box seat from this place for a while.

I've tried to help you in several threads since you joined this forum, and I very recently asked you good naturedly to tone down your criticism of The Ogre. You then demonstrated that you have no respect for anyone at PFF and posted that insulting disgusting obscenity. That is not acceptable behavior here in a family oriented forum.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 06-30-2019).]

Again, I am very appreciative of all of the help I have recieved. I did nothing to earn the bashing that Ogre has been giving me, and I won't tolerate being spoken to that way. I understand there are extenuating circumstances that cause him to be the way he is, I just learned of this, but, again, if I am expected to be civil, I expect it in return. That isn't an excuse for my language, I applogize for that to everyone...very sincerly. That being said, this will be my last post on PFF. If Ogre won't be held to the same expectations of civility as everyone else, I don't need the stress. This _IS_ a great forum, and I will miss the (mostly) great help and encouragement I have received.
Best wishes to all.
D.
