engine was fine... basicly a chevy250 inline with a ohc set up on it.. they are different enough to not be able to drop the Pontiac head on the chevy and go..
but the ohc Pontiac was a beancounter build/designed limited..
It made great power.. for what it was..
I'd like another.. I'd add a turbo and efi..
A guy on an other forum is doing this now...

beware, it will cause you to loose all track of time reading this.. so, set aside time to get lost in this..

The Pontiac OHC 6 was a great little engine that was underappreciated at it's time. The Sprint 6 high output version even had a 4 barrel carb, but everyone wanted a V8 back then. Had the OHC 6 stayed in production until the Arab Oil Embargo in the 70's, it could have found renewed life as a more economical performance engine. So much potential, but making power with a simple OHV V8 was easier and cheaper.

Current motor pool consists of:

2004 GMC Sierra 1500
2000 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible
1992 Mercury Grand Marquis
1988 Pontiac Fiero Formula

The GMC is a recent purchase so I could retire the TA from daily driver duties. I was racking the miles up on it WAY too fast. Now I can spend some time to refresh the TA a bit and enjoy it for pleasure driving. And I no longer have to risk driving it in Winter weather.

The Mercury was my dad's. I inherited it when he passed back in 2002. I've tried to keep it running, but when the fuel pump quit I've just parked it and it's just taken up space since then. I'm thinking it's time to finally part with it.

And then there's the Fiero. I've got a lot of history with that car. Bought it in 2001. It was my daily driver for many years, but the last 2 years it's mostly just sat in the driveway. Too many cars and not enough time. I'm reluctantly thinking it may be time to sell it as well. I don't really want to let it go, but I can't bear the idea of it sitting and rotting away and would rather someone else enjoy it. It seems all my "car" time gets devoted to the TA these days anyway and I barely have enough time to do what I want with it.

Some past rides included;
'69 Firebird 350. My first car I bought in High School, slinging a LOT of burgers at McDonald's to pay for it.
'72 Pontiac Trans Am. Bought it shortly after graduating from Community College with my first real full time income.
'87 Buick Grand National. My first new car. Bought it in the Fall of 1987, right after the stock market crash.

I had both the '69 and '72 at the same time. I sold the '69 and used the money from it as a down payment on the GN. Both the '72 TA and GN got sold when I went back to school to study Mechanical Engineering at NC State.

They're still my favorite. The '72 was a single year for a honeycomb pattern grill. I always thought that was the best looking of all. Other years had grills with a square pattern.
