I wanted to install an LED 3rd brake light in my spoiler for a clean modern look.
This is the 25" LED I settled on https://www.spoilerlights.c...-hole-spoiler-light/

We decided to cut a slot in the spoiler using a router and secured and blocked the wing to give us a fence for the router guide. The outside edge IS straight with the wing. It's just distortion in the picture. The slot cut will be straight.

We used a 1/2" diameter x 3" long router bit to cut the opening. My friend was afraid to make the cut in one pass, and did it in two passes (he thought, to be safe). Unfortunately, by doing that there was no support on the 2nd pass for the "flat side" (bottom of wing) and the cutter gouged the edge instead of leaving a clean cut (made quite a mess).

If you set the cutter deep enough, cutting in a SINGLE pass will give the nicest result and not gouge.

A strip of MFD approx. 2"wide x 26"long supports the LED. It's on the table between the wing and strip. It is tapered to match the angle of the wing, being 5/8" thick at the front edge and 1/2" think on the inner edge (near center on wing).

Once you get this far, it will be obvious why the MDF is required. It will be bonded inside to the top of the wing with the front edge flush with the slot we just cut.

The LED strip has 5 mounting holes.

I will drill 5 holes in the bottom of the wing matching the mounting holes in the LED strip. Five screws in the bottom on the wing pass through the mounting holes in the LED strip and into the MFD strip we glued inside the wing. Yeah, I flipped the pictures so we're not looking at the wing "upside down".

Once the edges are finished and the wing is painted, I think this should look very "factory".

Update. Finished edges, repainted and on the car. LEDs are not on, just reflecting the flash.

Would also be cool if the bar could be in three parts so you could do the turn signals on the ends of the bar...
Or sequence the turn from the middle out... just dreaming...

Here's the SD4 Indy this went on https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/096075.html
I have since changed the decal back to just Indy Fiero. The SD4 looked too big and made the decal too long.

A pic of the lights on in the dark would be great!

Edit, I was considering doing something like this with the Cadillac light strip. I don't remember who did it but it came out nice also.

I saw that. The caddy light was almost the full width of the wing, thicker and had a curve that made it more work to fit.

The guy did a pretty good job, but it looked "too oversized" for my taste.

I like how the strip ends just above the inside edge of the tail lights. I think this is exactly how GM would have (should have) done it. Great job!

Good to see another has done this. The LED strip just looks so modern and fits the wing so well.

For which car is the OEM LED strip you've installed?

If you have a third brake light, it's a simple matter to tap and run wires.
I also installed a Brake Pulser for the wing's LED light.
http://www.webelectricprodu...m/blp/blpdetails.htm

I ran the wires through the wingstand and fished it through the rib of the decklid - same as the trunk popper wiring.
