Ok lately seems like 5th is becoming a royal PITA to hit. I'm hitting 3rd instead not unless I use both hands to shift

Just wanted to double check this.. been awhile and I'm feeling a bit car stupid

And if that doesn't work, the shifter mechanism itself may be cracked or have broken welds.

After having all kinds of shifting issues that new cables, adjusting etc. didn't fix, I found that my GT's shifter was cracked and needed a weld repair.

Update on possible selector cable problem: I was having a hard time pushing shifter over to 5th and reverse. After working on the problem for a bit I noticed the rubber boot on my aftermarket cable had slid up on off the non moving shaft on to the cable. Every time it tried to go over to 5th or reverse the boot would compress and restricted the movement of the shifter. I pulled it back down where it belonged and zip tied it and things where back to normal. Hear is a picture of how it should look except I don't have it hooked back to the trans yet.
