Just saw it last night... It was pretty good! Kind of reminded me of older films (like the Goonies, etc) where the movie is done from the children's prospective.

Saw Super 8 last night, thought it was great. Very much a Speilberg movie, sort of Jurassic Park meets Independence Day meets Alien. Suspenseful, but not exactly gory...just a couple of parts where the gore is more suggested than in your face. And the kids were great, plenty of humor to take the edge off the suspense so it didn't turn into a horror movie, a really good balance. Intense enough to keep you interested without being overwhelming. We really enjoyed it.
I agree 8mm was a very good movie. Im waiting for reviews of Super 8, then ill get it from Redbox. Im waiting for next week to see the pilot for Falling Skies from Spielburg. Anymore, some of the tv shows coming out surpass the so called blockbusters.
FWIW, I thought it was a great movie. Its a sci fi thriller that keeps you guessing, and on the edge of your seat, with enough humor and slow moments to keep it enjoyable.

i thought those kids were a lot like the kids in the goonies.
Makes since.. since Spielburg wrote The Goonies and Produced Super 8... I'm sure J.J. Abrams was more than willing to take Spielburg's advice on how to make the cast of kids approachable.
I was already to see the movie this evening, so I decided to call Century Theater for times and an employee picked up the phone (I was expecting a recording). Anyway, I asked if they're sold out. He said, "No" (that was a clue right there).
I continued, "Is the movie any good?" He didn't want to tell me, so I pressed forward, "Are the monster eating people?" "I don't want to see some “happy-go-easy” monsters shaking hands with humans. I want people to be eaten up, because they need to go!" He laughed and told me the movie is a tribute to Spielberg or something. Needless to say, I'll wait until the movie hits NetFlicks.

Well, even the biggest blockbusters arn't sold out the following tuesday night after it comes out. Also, the monster isn't as benign as you seem to have an impression of. Give it a shot

Tempting, but no thanks. I'll rent Battle Field Los Angeles today. I think those aliens aren't playig "footsey" with the humanoids.

Why would a movie be sold out on a weekday? It probably had 2-3+ cinemas dedicated to the one movie... ya can't expect 700 people to all go to the movies on a Tuesday night at every time of day. Lol. I don't know why that was a clue for you. Since when does sold out=good anyways? Did you see the same Transformers 2 that I did?

It's the Bay Area were sci-fi geeks live and regularly use Fandango. I did ask the guy on the phone about the weekend too and he said the movie was so-so. Usually, (if the movie is any good) you can't get a ticket w/o using Fandango on the weekend. Usually, Mon-Wed you get a spill over from older people like me flock to the movies to avoid those that talk, chew popcorn like a horse/cow, and/or texting. The last time I saw one of those sequels, "Aliens" Blackberries lit up during the slow parts of the movie. I saw mini blue screens popping up.

I just got done seeing it, very glad I had some passes. I thought the movie was awful, long and boring. It was interesting concept but nothing I will watch again.
