There seems to be a proliferation of hijacked threads cropping up everywhere, mostly with people arguing petty differences of personal opinion that have nothing to do with the OP's thread. It's time people start their own threads or PM each other to battle out their differences of opinion so that others like myself don't have to sift through the drivel of otherwise good threads that inevitably get tossed in the Trash Can because of it. Please everyone, stay on topic because the rest of us don't care for the recent drama which diminishes not only the people arguing, but the forum as a whole.

I don't know what you consider to be "recent" but this has been happening since I joined and that was over a year and a half ago. When I look back at some of the older threads in archives I see it pretty often as well. I think this is just how it goes on a forum. I'm not arguing with your thread at all, in fact I'm sick of adults acting like children as well, but I just don't see it stopping. There does seem to be a few individuals who take it to levels that are generally unacceptable on a regular basis though. Personally, if they ever leave or get banned for it I won't miss them, but I won't go into that list and there are probably a few people who have me on their list, so......

at least it isnt as prevalent here as it is in some other sites. but people will always hide behind their computer and pretend to be the big man.....or woman.....and be more than they are. they cant do it in real life so they chose to do it here where there are no consequences....really i feel sorry for them

I have gone into one thread and tried to de rail it intentionally. I would like to say sorry to everyone but the OP of the thread I started fighting in.
It is hard to draw a logical line between when to say something and when not to. I usually prefer to correct people when they say ignorant / wrong stuff... Does that make me a bad guy? Yes, but the logical deduction behind that is the fact that you are eliminating wrong information 1 post at a time.
Correcting or debating information, as long as it's on topic, it isn't wrong, in fact it's great. We're all guilty of publishing the wrong "facts" occasionally, but correcting someone by telling the world they're an idiot and they're wrong is hardly the way to convince anybody you're right. It's also the kind of stuff that gets people from the other-Fiero-forum rubbing their hands together.

I really hate to let incorrect (sometimes grossly incorrect) technical information go unchallenged, because someone, someday is going to depend on it and possibly get hurt by it. Many people seem to have an increasingly difficult time distinguishing between fact and opinion. In extreme cases, there are a few here who are quick to post opinions even when they have no earthly idea what they're talking about. Some PFFers are gracious when corrected, but some are not. Usually the worse the technical information the more argumentative the poster will be. A few here on PFF become really belligerent and abusive about it, and when contrary evidence is presented will try to save face by claiming that it's only a point of view or, finally, thatit's just not that important.
Doesn't seem to happen here as much as some other forums. This IS the "OT" area, too. I get tired of bickering which bleeds into unrelated threads, but I don't think it's happening as much as we THINK it might be, it just irks us when it happens.
That cartoon is pretty funny...
Arguing is just SO useless. but most of us are useless anyway, so i guess we might as well waste our time bickering on the internet instead of going outside and doing something less useless...

It's spillover from the political rhetoric in OT. People get used to confrontational and argumentative writing styles there and it carries over into the other forums too. At least, that what I honestly believe. I've seen it happening in other forums too, a gradual loss of civility and decorum and a corroding sense of respect for the viewpoints of others. It's possible to not believe or agree with someone without being rude about it, but it takes work and to some that's just too much work.
Cant stand treads about thread hijacking threads. Lets talk about something else.
Just got back home from a quick run around the block in the V8 Fiero, actually made a guys jaw drop. He walked up to the car just to find out what I had in it.
I sure hope this isn't taken the wrong way, but some of what we're talking about here is rooted in the fact that the Forum is basically running on automatic. As impressive as that is on a technical level, it means there isn't a level of live moderation present that would deal with all the little hick ups along the way.
I would add that the few that we see acting up regularly would not even think of continuing if there were live bodies keeping an eye on things.
Truthfully, it's a credit to all of us that the environment isn't much much worse.
Just my two cents.

As the resale value of Fieros drop, so does membership ________. In a few years, the price of Fieros will start to climb, making them less affordable to those who must ____ ____ ____.
Fill in the blanks as you interpret it.

My $0.02 - I used a few cars forums, from US, UK, PL; big and small, from heavy moderated to non-moderated. This Fiero forum looks average for me, if we talk about hijacked topics, user ego-boosting, and bickering. So, I believe its ok. For me, a little off topic or a proper size flame is ok. I prefer social nets, talkin, and fun AROUND cars, than supersolid info and orrderr ABOUT cars - IMO open forum is for social integration and live talking, for databased solid info use www or wiki or similar structure (or forum so closed and heavy moderated as equal of closed wiki).

I never noticed this till just now... We have no "moderators" here; and for the most part, things run pretty smooth. I think the user rating system has allot to do with this. If someone gets too out of line, others just vote them out...
I do consciously make an effort to stay on track. But I know of at least one time I strayed for a post or two... I do not really see a need to argue on the internet, it only makes the parties involved took like IDIOTS...
You could almost bet ur @ss that if our screen names were our real names, 99% of the BS would not exist... PPL hide behind there anonymity

My sceen name is actually my name. When I joined, I did that to keep myself in check. I don't know how many times I've written something and deleted it instead of hitting the submit button. I wish I could do that in real life more often.

A standard for discourse I like to promote and attempt to hold my self to is: "only make a comment if the other party will benefit from it." and then ask yourself as well, "Is it my ego talking?"

My screen name is also my full name, and I have learned in most cases that if you have nothing nice or helpful to say, its better off to not say anything at all.

Seriously, I am probably guilty as some about hijacking a thread but I am conscious of it and try not to do it. Like Marvin, I hate to see incorrect information that could hurt someone go uncorrected. After trying to explain something and getting contrary arguments from the OP, I just stop commenting.

Just as I thought! You're willing to settle for "close enough" rather than put in the work necessary to use the correct value! (Even when I'm feeling especially lazy, I still use the value 3.14159265...) Quitter!
