I have this unit out of an Oldsmobile. It lights up blue. Unfortunately its locked..... Anyone know how to unlock them? (if they can be)
Some of the newer (2003 or later?) radios are interfaced to the BCM (I think) in the car, and are looking for the correct VIN. At least that's what I've always understood.

I made this unit light up bright blue. I wired in capasitors so when power goes off to the display it will slowly fade off instead of shutting off abruptly. It looks neat.

Chris, Unfortunately that radio is a newer Databus radio. It doesn't have an ignition wire. It has a constant 12V wire for memory and the car receives a signal from other modules (BCM) that tell it when to turn on. If you were to get a Bonneville BCM, and use a GM Tech 2 scanner, you could unlock the radio and make it all work. I just troubleshot a 2003 Bonni last week with lots of databus problems. That car has about 15 computers in it. I have always wanted to wire up all the cool features of the newer cars, but just never had time.
Here is one of the Bonni schematics. It looks like some of the models used a radio that looked the same but only had low level outputs (like RCA level) and required a GM amp. Hopefully you have the one with speaker level outputs.
Hope this helps!
