Hello all- in my perusing of e-bay, I contacted a seller who has an auction for a body kit for first generation MR2's and asked why they did not offer anything for the Pontiac Fiero, and if they would consider doing so. I mentioned the large number of members here and elsewhere, and wondered if they could do something, etc.

He replied, and told me certainly they would be able to. Here was his exact response:

"yes. We can prototype the body kit. as long as someone can provide the car to us. and the car need to stay at the shop for about 4-6 weeks. if you like give us your phone number we can discuss more about this. also if you can please email us the Fiero forum web address. looking forward to heard from you. thanks"

What does anyone think? Is this worth pursuing? I don't know where they are located, but I'd guess CA. Regardless, if a member where ever they turn out to be were interested in helping maybe we could get something going?

Oh, and here's a link to a current second generation MR2 auction so you can see the kit they are selling for it (I did check their feedback- some positive, some negative):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymot...7QQitemZ270235514916

What says anyone?
-Gary

I've got one they can use to prototype with.. as long as I get a car back with a good set of panels on it. 4-6 weeks.. Yeah, I can do that... That would look pretty good on my wife's little T-top coupe.

The issue is that if they are serious, they need a Fiero to use to prototype a kit for us...

i think it is a great idea ! i personally am a fastback fan, but i think there are way more notchbacks and the notchies need more love to bring them up to the level of the fastbacks.

i think a notchback bodykit would be the way to go.

I'd love to see what they could come up with too! They don't know it yet but we here in this forum are used to a lot of creative people coming up with some awesome mods so they are going to have to work at it to impress us! I hope they do.

Did you see the price on that auction? I would pay $500 bucks for a good bumper / side skirt comb shipped in a heart beat!

That was my first thought as well- Even if it isn't the best quality in the world, many could make it work!

The company would be making/designing the kit- though we should likely have a few "requests" or we might get a total goofy looking product. They need an actual car to use for 4 to 6 weeks to prototype the kit though, so we need to locate a member near Ontario, CA and get them in touch with these guys...Maybe a new post with a title like "Looking for members in the Ontario, CA area?"

I've offered to take my car down for them... Both here on the forum and e-mailing them through their eBay ad. Never heard a word back. Makes me think they are not all that interested. Ontario is about an hour and a half from me.

I called and talked to them and they are going to let me know. I told them that it would be great if something could be done in time for me to debut it at WestFest. They are going to call me back this afternoon so I'll let you know.

Songman,

Sweet. They haven't been all that slow to respond to my inquiries thus far, so hopefully you can keep things rolling. Keep us posted and let us know if we can help in any way...

He asked me if I thought people would prefer the 'border' style or 'Tom's' style as shown on the eBay ad.

I told him that although I prefer the Tom's style personally, I think more people would probably buy the border style so that is what I think they should do first.

The terminology they used was "protoype a kit using the Fiero," and they said they'd need the car for "4 to 6 weeks," so I'd hope they can fabricate something "new" as opposed to just chopping up a kit.

As a side note, they did confirm to me just now that they have been in contact with Songman and are in preparations to get something started with him!!!

I want some pluses if this actually happens! Songman too! LOL

No problem!

When I first spoke to them they said that they needed to finish up a Cobalt kit they were working on before they could start on a Fiero. They said probably another couple of weeks. But then I told them about WestFest and that if they could get something done in that time frame that we could debut the car live to lots of Fiero owners... That is when they started looking at changing the schedule. We shall see...

I like Tom's better too... But I think the younger owners out there would be more partial to the 'ricer' look of the border style. Maybe I should start a thread and get opinions...

how much are they going to change this toms design if they do it? if it looks alot like the MR2 one there is no chance i will buy it. i really think they should try and make something original.

edited for spelling.

Songman hasn't had that discussion with them yet. He was simply gauging interest in a general "style." The vendor has not said "either this or that style" as of yet...

This is true. We are just gauging a direction that they might go. We want to come up with something that might actually be bought by a few people. If they do decide to do one and nobody buys it, then they will certainly not do another one. But if they are able to sell a number of kits and see that Fiero owners do want to customize their cars, it is more likely that we would see additional kits in the future.

Obviously their prices are good. We'll have to wait and see about their quality and their design.
